  • Rune Rarity.

Ok, I have a dumb question.

While in PoK last night, waiting for a rez (*Grumble*)... I was vendor mining, and saw a rune I had never seen before. Consulting my Old research list (Printed out from EQTC), I saw that the Rune of Impetus was used in the level 49 spell Supernova. It was then replaced in the merchants inventory with a rune of Ap'Sagor, also used is a level 49 spell "Wrath of Ap'Sagor".

It would appear as though I have the rare half of the Supernova spell, from what I can guess. Is that true? Also , do I have the rarer half of The wrath of Ap'Sagor spell?

My experience, albeit limited, researching spells for my chanter has shown me that one item from every recipe is always VERY much rarer then the other(s).

Impetus is the rarer of the runes for Supernova, and Ap'Sagor is the rarer for Wrath of Ap'Sagor. (For wizards, some runes are used in more than recipe, and those "shared" runes are typically easiest to find.)

I wouldn't classify any of the old-school wizard (or enchanter) research components as "rare", though. Yes, some are less common than others, but all aren't that hard to find in loot or friends'/guildmembers' loot, or if wanting to spend a small amount of pp, merchant-diving with luck.

Zallarenya is correct, the old school wizard research components are not really rare. You can usually find a few tons of them on the closest merchant to a high level zone. For instance, with Necros soloing in Katta, the merchants there can sometimes carry quite a few of them, even the 49th level ones. Impetus and Ap'sagor are somewhat rare, but the drop rate on them isn't something that justifies charging more than a merchant will pay/charge. Problem is getting the ML to keep the ones you actually need and not autodestroy everything.

Personally, I find hitting the monk with a stick and threatening to take away his bananas is a good way to keep them in line. If you're in a PoP group though, make sure everyone knows not to trash the reseach comps. Sometimes the oldest players are the worst offenders when it comes to component destruction.

Any looter in PoP destroying runes or pages of any sort is nuts, IMO.

Not only do casters (INT & WIS) need those components for research, but they are also risking destroying runes or parchments used for 61+ spell trade-ins by mistake
