I just want you all to know that you're not forgotten, in spite of the slowness with which research stuff is getting added. I do intend to cover research as comprehensively as we do other tradeskills...eventually! I'm not as good at this as Niami is, and she's plenty busy already, but we are working on it! I'm making note of requests and suggestions, I promise you're not just talking to the wall.

I need your help! I've been appointed research moderator by our gracious Niami, so I'm trying to get this stuff corralled and up on the site for ya's but, well, shamans aren't known for wandering around with our noses stuck in books. So, I need you all to keep me on track and feed me any information you think I ought to know.

I have copious printouts of info from the Mythrian Tower, but it's all enchanter related. If you need , I can type stuff up.

don't forget to include in that list which of the runes/words/pages are used for making swatches.

Actually, as it says at the beginning, I deliberately did not include the ones that work for swatches, because most (or all, I'm not sure) of the swatch ones are old world, so it would have made the list a lot longer. And the main goal of the list was to give everyone a quick reference of the relative value of the new drops that are coming out. There are also a lot less swatches, so it's not nearly as bad to look through that list for a specific component as it is to look through the spells. I might consider a swatch list by component at some point in the future, but right now I think focusing on the spells will benefit more people.

Where do you find the components

As a shaman you know my pain about Malo and Torpor being rediculous drop rates and the fact that no one hunts them anymore so there is no supply of them and you know what that does to price. I am so glad about the research ability now.
In order to find the components is there any way you can add to your chart of components and what they make as to where they might drop so I can start hunting those rascally rabits?

First, thanks for doing the great job. I will endeavor to comb through the listing for mistakes (of which I am sure I will find none).

And, exactly half of the 36 swatch making research components are old world and the other half are LoY era components (usually one that make rare spells). Each race uses 3 original game and 3 LoY era materials.

First we need that information. For now I'd say it's better for people to use the drop locations thread that's already going in the forum here. If we get enough information in there that it needs organizing then I'll see what I can do.

Confirming the 3 "*" under Magician:
Summoning Earth* (24) - uses Words of Dimension
Dagger of Symbols* (39) - recipe listed is correct
Conjuration Fire* (44) - uses Words of Incarceration

Trivials (for Magician):
lvl 49 spells - 182
lvl 44 spells - 162
lvl 39 spells - 142

Trivials (for Necromancer):
lvl 20 spells - 62
lvl 24 spells - 82 (I lost my notes on this one .. need someone to double check)
lvl 29 spells - 102 (I lost my notes on this one .. need someone to double check)
lvl 34 spells - 122

I know there was a list of trivials for old world research floating around that do not match the above numbers, but the above are my own findings.

Since my notes on my necro's research is incomplete, I think it may actually be better to delete the trivials I have posted for necro above. Reading through my notes again, the 62 trivial is more possibly for lvl 24 spells than lvl 20 spells. Better to delete that part. Sorry for the confusion.

No idea where to put this since the info is quite minor. So gonna put it under this thread hehe.

Long ago, there has been a confusion for the following recipe:

Necromancer lvl 16:
Banshee Aura - Words of Derivation, Words of Eradication

It was because the Necro Research Recipe Book says "Words of Divination" instead of "Words of Derivation". Even Mythiran Tower still has an "**" for this recipe now.

I checked the combine today and can confirm that "Words of Derivation" is correct. I made the spell.

I also checked the Book again today and it still says "Words of Divination".

Looks like I got it right on the site somehow, but I'll relay to Niami to relay to the Powers That Be to see if maybe the book can be fixed. You might also want to submit this (and any other such things) directly via the /bug command in game, that should be just as effective at getting things fixed. Thanks!

Also, I'm locking this thread now that Maeve has taken over as resident moderator for spell research. Now you won't have to try to help a shaman understand what in the heck is going on with all those bits of paper! I'll still be poking around, following up on various things, but not nearly as much as before. We've got the bulk of the important stuff up on the site, now we just need more tips and tricks and details on how it all works, not to mention a whole lotta trivials! Feel free to keep the suggestions and submissions coming, and Maeve will get it to Niami or I to get on the site!
