Similar but different, if anyone's curious it cost me less than 2k to buy skill up from 168 to 200 at my enchanter guildmaster. Started at around 6p per point I think, and ended around 50p per point, so if your starting skill is lower it won't add too significantly to the tab.

If you can spare the coins for this, I suggest doing it soon in case Verant figures out it's still possible, and decides that they'd prefer it to not be possible. I'm sponsoring one of each class in my guild so we'll have someone who can do our combines.

Two things Kaaba:

1) The new spells cannot be made in the old books. The new books cannot be obtained unless you are of the right class. So no, the new spells cannot be made as you say.

2) Have you tried what you suggest? I have. It does not work. At least a wizard cannot use an old enchanter book and do enchanter research.


But, what you suggested is a common and very old myth.

With my enchanter I made mage spells for a friend, he gave me the book and the components and I combined them and made a spell (this was the pre-LoY research). There is only one research skill, there is not an enchanter research skill or necro research skill. With the new no drop books all you have to do is say "I am an enchanter" or "I am a necro" and you get the proper book. There is no hard coding where you only get the book of your class.

Have you personally verified this? Folks have tried faking out the NPC only to find he DOES check not only your class, but also your spell research skill. If you don't have 101+ in spell research, AND you're not of the class you state, he won't give you anything. Granted, I haven't tried in the last 2 days, but these newer, smarter NPCs check a lot of things, and he was pretty savvy about such things a few days ago.

I forget whether it was thursday or friday, but my druid walked up to him, said "I am an enchanter", and was told to shove off and stop lieing.

Kaaba, no offense intended, but if you learn anything about EQ traders, learn this: when narrowing down recipes and trivials, no one here 'just assumes' anything - it MUST be confirmed.

about the using another class's research book to make another class's spells, it used to be possible, but they fixed it a while back. similar to the "any priest can scribe and cast any imbue spell" thing that they fixed, but only for scribing and not casting.

as for the LoY research it was never possible to do another class's research as it was never possible to get another class's research book. the wis caster research can be done in any research book though (reportedly).
