TRade Skills on Time Locked Progression Server (Spell Research)

Always found Spell Research a bit confusing. Spent about 6 years collecting words and keeping hundreds of them on a mule only for them to change the system/recipes

So now after a few years away I've just started on Lockjaw. I would HUGELY appreciate it if I could be pointed to some advice on how to get going with Spell Research on TLPs. I don't even know what system is in place there.
