  • Recipe Help - Tome of Scaledfist Discipline Rk. II

I've tried to figure out how to diagnose melee research spells, but it just isn't coming to me. If someone would be kind enough to help point me to a greater understanding it would be appreciated. I read the melee research thread, and I honestly don't get it.

1: Increase Dragon Punch Damage Modifier by 188%
2: Increase Eagle Strike Damage Modifier by 188%
3: Increase Flying Kick Damage Modifier by 188%
5: Increase Round Kick Damage Modifier by 188%
6: Increase Innate Damage Modifier by 188%
10: Increase Kick Damage Modifier by 188%

So based on the melee research thread:
    Smudged Runic Paper
    Monk Quill
    Ralos' Ink Additive
    Striking Thickener
    Ink of Infliction

Would it take 6 inks since there are 6 damage modifiers?

    Any help would be appreciated!

You look to be on the right track, although you threw me a moment with the 'Monk Quill'. The Tome and Quill (Quill of the Transcendent) are certainly right, since they are fixed for class and level, Ralos' Ink Additive has to be right, since there is no Poison involved. Striking Thickener looks right, since the skill has nothing to do with Debuffs, although I could see an outside chance that it would be considered a Buff and use Invigorating Thickener (it really should not though, as it is an increase to melee damage).

As far as the Inks go, Ink of Infliction increases melee damage, which is exactly what this skill seems to do. I would certainly try all combinations from one to six Ink, since there are six skills involved (Inks are cheap, so nothing really lost by buying too many and selling any back you do not need), or you could try mixing Ink of Pain in as well (which again rings wrong to me, as Ink of Pain causes damage directly, while Ink of Infliction increases melee damage).

Good luck on the Research and when you do find the recipe, please post it to the Data Submissions part of his forum so others can benefit from your efforts.

Sorry to bump and old thread but not sure were to post.

I'm an 85 SK max skill & quill. According to the recipe board and allaz I should be able to make the runic grimoire part but I can't seem to make it in a hybrid or book binding kit.

Is the grimoire and the final tome still combinable by a hybrid class for this?

I guess first I ask if you used the correct recipe: Smudged Runic Paper, Runic Paper Solution, Celestial Cleanser and Tome Cover Supplies, in a Hybrid Research Kit (it sounds like you took the recipe straight off this site and used the correct kit though).

Second, it may have been made impossible at some point for Hybrids to make Runic Grimoires, as they have no use for one. Hybrids can only make Hybrid spells and Disciplines, and no Hybrid has a Discipline at level 74, which is the level the Runic Grimoire is used for.

It seems odd that the combine would be disabled, since it would require more work to turn off specifc combines than it would be to just leave them, but the fact that hybrids have no tomes at that level is interesting.

If nobody else chimes in, I will lose a Smudged Runic Paper trying the combine this evening (I have a Spell Researcher and a Tome Researcher, so my hybrids never developed any noteable Research skill) just to see if I get a Does not Combine message.

I await your attempt, and yes I tried the correct parts in both a hybrid kit and even tried in a tome binding kit. No luck.

I'm of a mind that this is the correct reason a hybrid can't make the tome. It makes sense. Bummer, guess my monk buddy needs to find a melee researcher or wait for a possible upgrade of it from HoT.
