Newbie with another Question

I'm trying to create pristine hides. I have all my ingredients and when I combine them I come up with smooth hides. Does anyone have an idea what I might be doing wrong? I have double checked all my components and they are identical to what is on the website. I am however combining them in a regular spell research kit (not the class specific ones).

Another question is have is when do I switch over to my class specific spell research kit or can I keep using the regular one I have now. My skill is only 57 at the moment.

You didn't specify what class you are, but if you're an intelligence caster, the "Spell Research Kit" is the right kit for everything now. No Elemental Grimoires, Tome of Endless Enchantments, and so on are needed anymore.

I'm seeing from the recipes on the database that the only difference in result is combining the raw hide, skinning knife and hide solution with either celestial solvent for smooth hide or lye for pristine hide. You are using the lye and not the celestial solvent?
