Heya,
As a 300 skill INT caster spellcrafter and a 257 skill tome researcher, I've done a lot of research into what spells and tomes sell well, so I can further fund my tome research toon. I thought I'd compile and post what I know, in case other people are in the same boat. If I've left anything out (and I probobly will,) feel free to add what you know. =) I mostly only cover spells because I'm not skilled enough to make tomes past level 65 with any kind of reliability.
Firstly, DoDH spells. These spells prior to the spellcraft revamp required long "mission arcs" (4 to 5 missions per arc) to obtain. You can still get them that way in theory, but very few people are willing to do these missions. I find that the druid spell Skin of the Reptile sells pretty well as long as it's priced reasonably, and there are some melee tomes that come from these arcs as well that I imagine would sell handily, such as Commanding Voice, a tome that I'm told is still used post-80 by warriors, though I don't play one myself so I can't be sure of this. To find out what spells come from these arcs, search alla's for "Rage of Kelliad" (the final 68 mission,) "Rescue Cicero!" (final 69,) and "Into the Shadows" (final 70.)
PoR-era "Skylance" mission arc spells/tomes/auras - Like the DoDH mission arcs, noone really does these anymore, so the spells they yield can sell for a good profit. The mage spell Iceflame Guard in particular is a really good one, it gives the mage's pet a proc ward (similar to a cleric's) that has a chance to randomly damage an attacker any time the pet gets hit. Every time it goes off, it also gives the pet a one-hit rune that absorbs a bit of damage. Pallies and bards also obtain their 70 aura from this mission arc, though I haven't tested how well they sell. To find these spells look up "skylance" under the Quests category on alla's.
PoR "Takish Hiz" line of missions - Same as the previous two, nobody does them. I've only sold Aura of the Pious out of this category, but it looks to me as if there are others that might sell well (I don't think shaman ever get an upgrade for "Idol of Malos," for instance, so that might be a good one to try.) To find these missions on alla's search "PoR level 70 spell" and then go under quests and look at number 3.
Spells from the DoN camps - These are purchased with Radiant Crystals or Ebon Crystals if they aren't gotten from a researcher. Check prices for the crystals on your server (Radiants are likely to be cheaper,) and make sure to price any spell you craft from this category lower than the cost of the crystals required to buy it (I usually price mine at 40 percent of the cost of the crystals needed.) To see what spells are purchased with crystals, search on Allakhazam for "Tatsujiro the Serene." On his page there'll be a list of all spells, tomes, and items purchased with crystals.
Level 69 spells from DoN progression - Though DoN progression isn't hard to do these days, I've already recieved a request for the SK level 69 DoN tome and my tome researcher's skill is only in the 250s. It might be a good idea to browse through these for stuff to sell. To find these, search alla's for the quest "Dragons of Norrath Progression," then choose either the good or evil version (both yeild the same spells.)
LDoN spells - I haven't tested this category at all, though I've made some LDoN-era spells for friends. They're generally extremely cheap to make because they're low level, but I imagine that they wouldn't sell very well for the same reason. Might be worth a try for lower skill researchers who are short on funds, but I don't know.
Mage and necro pet spells - the PoP and OoW era mage and necro pet spells sell VERY well in my experience and they make up the majority of my inventory. To see the OoW mage spells, search Allakhazam for "child of;" they all start with this phrase.
TSS-era mage pet equipment spells - ie Summon Plate of the Elements and Muzzle of Mowcha. Both of these spells are CHEAP to make on my server (the parchments cost about 200 plat each and the solutions are 1.2k-ish) and I can sell either of these for 4.5k easily. They comprise a large chunk of my sales.
Lastly, a few random ones - Ashengate Pyre Rk. II sells okay because it is still used by necromancers who stack DoTs on raids until level 80+ (I've actually heard that some necros do still stack it at 80+, but I don't play a necro so I'm not sure.) Enchant Temporite and Mass Enchant Temporite also sell okay-ish, because they're used to make the new metal for the upgraded trio jewelry. However I've noticed there's usually a bit of competition for selling these last two, at least on my server (Luclin/Veeshan.)
Whew. I hope this helps someone, hehe, and feel free to add your own thoughts and I'll edit the guide to include them. =)
