  • Salvage AA & Research

okay so i purchased all the research AA's and the salvage AA's.
my question is, have i just wasted all the AA points i put into maxing Salvage?
i asked in general if it is random and was answered *Yes.*
if this is the case then (Ngreth!) someone needs to do something different that applies only to research skill because quite frankly the only only thing any researcher should want salvaged when researching is the (mob drop) stationery. i mean none of the other stuff makes any sense.

I would largely agree that Salvage in Research is less valuable than it is in some other tradeskills, but there are a few higher plat cost materials in Research, aside from the Paper.

If you farm your own Vellums, you are as interested in Salvaging the Cleaning Solution as you are in the Vellum itself, as that can cost you 1300 plat if you buy it or the cost of several gems and metal bars, plus farmed Sulfur and Saltpeter if you make them yourself, and there is the chance of salvaging more than one item.

There is nothing like the feeling of realizing you have just Salvaged a Stained Fine Runic Paper and Fine Runic Paper Solution, but lost the Celestial Cleanser.

Really though, other tradeskills are similar in a lot of combines. I considered it quite ironic last night while trying to make a Stalwart Knight's Sword for someone, when I only salvaged the three vendor bought components.

Nope, you didn't waist any points in Salavage. Salvage is used in every tradeskill. So actually its probally the best "Tradeskill AA" you can purchase. As far as not being very great for Research, like the other person said, if you farm all your own components, and do the multiple sub-combines, you can save alot in the long run from all the trivial fails. If you vendor purchase the stuff, its all marked up incredibly high (Tric 220+) and so you save cash that way. Yes, losing the parchment sucks, but losing 2k on vendor purchased stuff sucks just as munch.

So in short, nope, you didn't waist your AA's and you will see that after the 1000 combine!
What is all the fuss about? So I forgot to pick you up at work...I just gained a level !!! -Favorite last words as I sleep on the couch

I am not trying to downplay the significance of this aa, but here is my experience, its like a joke and lets treat it as one.

I was doing the fine paper solution combine, the 10 components cost about 1000pp, when I hit the combine, fails, salvage back 'A vial of pure water".

I've had salvage save multiple parchments when making spells, and this saves tons of money when trying to make lvl 66-69 spells. I've had it save Marrows, Spinneretts and Loams, when they didn't drop like rain, I've had it save me thousands of plat when using Conduits/cores from Sunshard Ore to do tradeskills. Salvage to me are some of the best 15 tradeskill or non-tradeskill AA's I have ever spent.

I don't know if salvage has an absolute cap on how many items are salvaged, but it has the potential to salvage every item from a failed combine. I have had this happen at least a couple of times.

While its value in research can certainly be debated, it has saved me from significant losses in other trades.

The research mastery AA on the other hand are currently still useful on the higher level spells, at least for the casters that have it available.

Both of the AA were much more useful on some of the older spells when they were still under the old research system (Remove Greater Curse comes to mind), which is when my wizard purchased the AA.
