  • New Patch - No Trade Spells

The patch of March 12, 2009 made about a dozen spells untradeable. These spells are new spells that are mostly 70 level spells made with Fine Runic Vellum. As a researcher on Fennin Ro who sells only Level 69 and 70 spells, this means that a considerable part of my inventory has become unsellable and worthless. (These new spells have been selling better than the older spells and with less competition on price.) The result is that a considerable amount of plat and effort spent has just been wiped out. Moreover, since this was without warning, I made a number of these spells in the last two nights.

Sooty Fine Runic Vellum has become increasingly rare on Fennin Ro. It is usually for sale in the bazaar for 5,500 plat and up. As a solution, I would be willing to trade in the old untradeable spells for Fine Runic Vellum and be willing to start again on the process.

This seems unfair. I think the statement that there is "no reasonable solution for a refund" seems defeatest. There are probably only about 30-40 players in all of EQ who have this problem based on my Fennin Ro experience. Couldn't there be a solution with GMs or petitions?

I am not understanding it really. From the patch notes (below) it would seem there is still a way to research these spells? Or am I reading it wrong? A friend made Ghost of Renewal for me this morning and when she was giving spells to me it turned out to be No Trade. Is there still a way to get this spell researched somehow? Or is it now only possible to get from the missions?

Also, it was done after patch which should have given a duplicate instead of the Original? It's really confusing to me Anyone have any info?

    - The following spells created by spell research now create a duplicate scroll instead of the original scroll. The original scrolls are now no trade. This does mean that you may have a no trade version currently, unfortunately there is no reasonable solution for a refund that is not able to allow players to create infinite scrolls. This change is intended to prevent players from creating infinite scrolls for free. Skill: Champion's Aura, Skill: Poison Spikes Trap, Skill: Master's Aura, Skill: Bloodlust Aura, Spell: Blessed Aura, Spell: Decrepit Skin, Spell: Aura of the Muse, Spell: Elddar's Grasp, Spell: Puratus, Spell: Moonshadow, Spell: Ghost of Renewal, Spell: Mind Shatter, Spell: Chaos Flame, Spell: Iceflame Guard, Spell: Mind Flay, and Spell: Spirit of Oroshar.

Yes if anyone has a clue what this means please post. I find it very confusing. My monk just recently got started in research, and it will be very disappointing if they are all no trade now.

Essentially, a number of spells were based on quests originally, not Research.

The spells from the quests also started out NoDrop, but when the spells became Researchable, the were made Tradeable.

The quests are still in the game, which meant if you had done the quest, Hailed the NPC and gotten the spell from the quest but did not mem it, you could hand the spell to somebody else, Hail the NPC again, and get another spell, then just keep on handing the spells off and Hailing.

I expect this generated quite a bit of plat for the people who stumbled into the bug, since it seems most of us sell level 69 and 70 spells for five to ten thousand plat each.

Now for the speculation, as it seems there are now two forms of each of these spells. The existing spells and the new ones generated by the quests will be NoDrop, with one ID number for internal record keeping, and the new type which is now Researchable will be Tradeable, and have a second ID number.

And just for note, I would have liked to have seen another solution, but accept that this was a fast and efficient way to deal with an immediate problem. Ghost of Renewal was a good seller for me, so I have ten to fifteen copies of it on a mule. The only plus is that the mule is a level 34 Shaman, so at least he potentially can use one copy of the spell at some point in the future.

Allowing the now NoDrop sell to be traded in for a Fine Runic Vellum would also not work, since as the quests still exist, all one would have to do is turn in the NoDrop spell for a Fine Runic Vellum, Hail, get another copy and that way generate Fine Runic Vellums instead of the spells it was throwing into the world before.

It's great they fixed an exploit and all, however, I have tried to research Ghost *after* the patch and it creates a No Drop spell. Is this a bug? Or what am I doing wrong?

Just ran into this issue as well- it must be bugged, as the way the patch note reads, the research should be the tradeable item, with a new number, and the quested versions should be a no trade item.

How is it fixing the quest glitch by making something researched post-patch into a no trade item?

If this is what was intended, the patch notes would have read "the spells {etc etc} have been made no trade to address an issue, etc."
What is said is you might now be stuck with no trade items, which is apparently every copy in existence up until the patch time, and then post patch anything researched should come out as a new item.
Only its not working. Just made master's aura on a rogue, and its not tradeable.
Defeats the purpose of having the pure melee classes able to make all tomes.
So Im thinking it will get fixed, but the ones we have made post patch that are no trade are probably lost.

              Moonshadow

I just crafted moonshadow. after the patch. And it is no-trade. Is this a bug or intended?

Small price to pay considering what was starting to happen by the exploiters.

Well its better then letting these spells that were not made by spell reseach flood the market as it is only a few tomes/ spells that got wasted by the "reseachers" ( I dont care how many stacks got wasted that the exploiters had ), but I hope they can fix the problem soon, but I suspect it wont happen till next patch ( hopefully ).

                  Lack of Spells

I agree that SOE should do whatever to stamp out the various exploiters.

However, after the patch, none of the listed spells that were on my trader were there in my bazaar mule's trader stacks. Although with 70+ spells on the trader I do not have a firm inventory, I do think I had Iceflame Guard and Spirit of Oroshar on the trader before the patch and they are not there now. Because it is post patch, I have no record of what sold between when I went to bed and the patch run.

Anyone else have spells on a character that were lost because of the patch?

It looks like the recipes are still making the old now no-trade scroll.

I put in the fix, and will try and be more clear with QA.

I do not know when it will go live, but it should in the next full patch.

The spells are still there but are now notrade so they will not show up when searched through bazaar window. You need to go into inventory and click on the spell to see that its now notrade and trash them or save them if that makes you feel better..

I was able to petition and get my 15 tomes exchanged for tradeable versions.
