  • Melee Research Suggestion (ATTN: Ngreth)

In doing hybrid melee research (HEF Pally), I got an idea for a cheaper alternative to skilling up.

Alas, it did not work (cannot combine in this container).

I found that many of the "basic" combines do work, however... but this one did not.

The "throwing" scrolls, as I call them, are made with essence that is "No Rent" and cast up by pure casters.

The throwing scroll is useable by all races and classes.

Thus, it would make sense if melee could make them, since they are able to use them.

This would create a Bazaar market for the essences (like the pet gear), as well as allow melee to use them as a cheaper alternative to skilling up.

It has been asked and answered several times that the Binding Powder combines will be reserved for Int casters only.

There is no real logic to making items that require a caster summoned component available to be made by pure melee or hybrid classes, as the implied lore inherent in them suggests that they require a personal expenditure of energy from the caster himself to make.

There is no purpose to further blending EQ into indistiguishable classes who all have the same abilities and skills.

This has been done too much already.

I think Bonzz was just trying to find a way to level the playing field for melee research. While I understand the reasoning behind the enhanced difficulty melee/hybrids have with research, I also completely understand the desire for a better skill-up path.

The AA requirement alone is going to keep me from attempting research for a looong time...will just hunt Bonzz down and ask him to do combines for me if it ever becomes a necessity

I do realize the reasoning, and my issues are partially with the periodic repetition of the same questions. This question has been asked, and answered, quite a few times already over the last couple of months. Like the periodic requests to make Karana ethos arrows makeable by all, or to give all races access to Tinkering, it has been flatly stated that it was not going to happen.

As well, from personal experience, I am uncertain at the need for a 'level playing field'. Since the expansion, I have levelled a Warrior Researcher to 270 skill with minimal difficulties and not overly high costs compared to what it cost me a few years ago to level a Blacksmith to a similar level.

As with my primary Int caster Researcher, I intend to level the Warrior to 300 simply doing combines for my own and friends' characters, so a grinding path does not seem to be a requirement. My chances of making the higher level tomes are currently slightly less than 50 50, but I consider that simply the cost of making necessary disciplines, no different than the need to kill several placeholders if I want a drop from a certain named.

For myself, I am currently doing melee research (rogue). My current research skill is 246.
I found it fast to skill up via parchment potions however after the 243 mark, things have slowed down.
I was hoping that I could use Glowing Energeiac Rods to skill up post 262, but this came up as a DNC for me. This would have been a costly skill up path but a path nonetheless from 262 onwards.

My skill up path so far....
            36 - 54 Vial of Pure Water
            96 - 102 Oil of Vitrol
            113 - 144 Parchment Solution
            145 - 174 Fine Parchment solution
            175 - 203 Vellum Parchment solution
            204 - 216 Fine Vellum Parchment solution
            217 - 243 Runic Parchment Solution
243 - 262 Researcher Ceramic Clay (where I am at the moment)
            263 - 300 Tome creations

If anyone has a better solution for a path 262+ please let us all know.
