What was your skill up arc/tactic? How did you go about reaching 300 from 1, just curious to see what you made in order to skill up, please and thank you.

Never under-estimate the magic power of "Difficulty 1", as this post attests to:

            lol...
Took my Rogue less than 400 attempts to go from 250-300.

            (2)

I was fortunate that my INT Researcher was one of the first to reach 300 in Mar 2006. So I had a 30-month head start in collecting "useless" parchments and vellums.

The fact that these parchments and vellums stack to 100 means they never get deleted from my mule's bank even after more valuable stuff (that only stacks to 20) are long deleted.

And I was "conservative" enough to never have "cleaned" any of these parchments or vellums. Or else I would have found today that they won't benefit non-caster researchers at all.

            (3)

After reaching 243 with Solutions, I was going combine by combine. But when I saw how fast the skillups are going, I decided to throw my whole mule's supply of parchments and vellums on my rogue for a gamble. I thought I may reach 282 if I were lucky. Never thought I would still have a healthy remain of spares after 300.

            (5) - superstition alert -

Ok, so my Mage took over 1,000 attempts from 250-300 and she enjoyed a "Difficulty 1" as well. So how was it possible that it only took 400 attempts for my Rogue?

The scientific explantion will be RNG.

But as a true TSer, I rely on superstition :P.

My 300x7 Druid who did it with 255 Wis was constantly taking *less* attempts to skillup than my 300x8 Mage with 280 Int. And my Mage is usually below the no. of attempts needed compared to what the EQTraders Calculator predicts for a 400 INTer even for Difficulty 4.

That makes me a firm believer that low INT/WIS doesn't hurt or may even help.

So I just leave my rogue at 220 INT (with 210-215 being the projected max needed for Difficulty 1). And sure enough, a 220 did better than a 255 or a 280!!

            (6)

            Skillup path will just be:

            Solutions to 243
            lvl 56 Tomes to 258
            lvl 61, 65, 66, 67, 68 Tomes to 300

And the bottomline is, use a Melee class to do Tome Research (to benefit from the Difficulty 1). And do not be afraid to throw your mule's collection of parchments and vellums into it for a run.

              Congratulations.

              One change to skill-up path:

Researcher Ceramic Clay, trivial 262, confirmed to work in Tome Research Kit and Priest Research Kit so far.

262 is where my monk is stuck now, unfortunately I was less 'conservative' than you and my stock of level 61-70 parchments and vellum mostly had been cleansed.

I have lots of level 71-75 paper but am not sure I want to jump directly to that high a trivial, particularly when the solutions are over 1k each from vendor or over 500pp each if you make them yourself.

Ooooh, glad to know the Ceramic Clay works for Melees and Priests. I didn't bother testing since Ngreth said the Researcher's Charm is not open to non-caster.

Anyways, I only have 40 wings on my mule (hey, that's 2 bank slots already!)

Looks like I had allowed the combine. I had not yet made the charm itself all/all though (fixed but needs a patch etc...)

Finally got Trophy 7 on my Rogue .

Trophy 7 always seem harder than going from 250-300 for me. I guess it's because there's no "excitment" value to it. Just mechanically churn out the 450 successes and you're there. No holding your breath every combine to see if there'll be a skillup - which is such a big part to TSing.
