  • Research for a warrior

Today's patch message included the following:

"The Research Trophies and Ethereal Quill can now be equipped by all classes."

Guess I got my hopes up and took these words at face value. Alas, while it may be true that my warrior can equip a Research Trophy, it's not of much value if I can't acquire the task!

Unless I'm overlooking something obvious, I'll return to "wait and see" mode for an appropriate trophy test.

...trudged thru 2100, why oh why do I want to do another

Not sure what you're talking about here. The trophy tasks are not limited by class but only the first tier trophy can be completed by melee because of recipe limitations. As long as your raw skill is less than 100 you can acquire the researcher's trophy.

I pushed on to 133 pre-patch when no alternative was in sight. Guess that's whiat's causing my problem and I'm SOL for now.

      Thanks for the feedback.

        Research Trophy

The Reserearch Trophy Quest is indeed limited by class.

Immediatlely aftre SoD came out, my bard got the skill level 70 quest and completed it, only to find that he couldn't equip the trophy. My warrior skipped the unusable trophy and skilled to 243.

I then read that Ngreth planned to make the trophy usable by all and my Warrior went to see if he could do the task at that level, only to be denied. My guess is that Ngreth, trying to avoid conflict, put a class restriction on the quests that could not be done by any class.

I will confirm that now my bard can use his Beginner Research Trophy and that my warrior can use his Geerlok Automated Quill.

Ngreth's plan for the time being is that you get the Beginner Trophy and skill up from r. Those of us that skilled too high must wait until he has and takes time to reconfigure the higher level quests.

The trophy itself was limited by class, the quest was not. They are completely different things.

Are you saying you think the quest itself was restricted *after* SoD launch? I personally acquired the task 3 days after SoD launched and completed all my tasks to be awarded the tier 1 researcher's trophy. Of course, I couldnt equip it at the time and I haven't logged into the game yet since the patch that enabled the trophy for everyone.

It is a problem with the quests that I just have not had time to fix (and then I forgot to make the trophy and geerlok all/all but that was just forgetfulness not time)

except for the first quest, the quests would lead you to make items that you cannot make. making it impossible to complete the quest. I figured giving a quest that could not be completed was worse than not giving you a quest at all. The solutions for this are time consuming, and I just did not have time to fix it. It is definitely in my plans

My uninformed guess is that Ngreth has to make sets of quests for melee, hybrid, and priest classes. The beginner quest works now. So, that is an apprentice, freshman, journeyman, expert, and master quest for all 3 classes. I think it may take some time to get 15 quests done. He may have another idea, we'll have to wait and see.

I would rather have the broken or missed recipes working first, but my main is an enchanter so I may be biased.

Will there eventually be a way to use the Binding Powder items for Melee research? It would be nice to use the final combines which can be thrown for melee.

No binding powders for melees ...

Ngreth has stated elsewhere that there will be nothing like the Binding Powders for the melees, hybrids, priests, or bards.

Skill-up paths are indeed limited. but ... I have a sharp stick; want a poke in the eye?

By now, I am sure that Ngreth is wishing he hadn't extended research beyond the int-casters.
