  • Highland Sludge Drying Powder

    (1)

I don't know if the lvl 68-70 DoN, DoDH and PoR spell recipes coming out next expansion will involve an extra component (a la Highland Sludge Drying Powder) to solve recipe conflicts.

But if this is necessary, I hope the extra component is a global (level appropriate of course) drop. And not an expansion specific drop. Because.....

As it is right now, with the GoD spell recipes, 5 spells have been singled out to be unreasonably harder than the rest to make because they need an additional *expansion specific* drop. These 5 spells are not "better" than the other GoD spells. They are not the "Remove Greater Curse" of GoD. They simply happen to have a recipe clash with a PoP / LDoN spell.

Seven expansions later, using an expansion specific drop for the single reason of solving a recipe clash no longer seems fair to these 5 spells.

Is it possible to look into this?

Once upon a time, I was on a bender to 'learn' every spell recipe that could be researched by my necro. When I initially came across sludge I wasn't exactly thrilled with the need to hunt beyond Kod'Taz to find the stuff, but as I was already flagged it was just an annoyance. Had I not been flagged, it would have been a major pain to round up sludge. As the zones are now free access with appropriate level, it becomes far less of a hassle to farm up a few bits of the stuff.

Still, I wondered why the use of an extra ingredient in just this handful of spells. Most other recipe clashes are simply remedied with the addition of an extra ink. I assume there was a reason why a supplemental ingredient (drying powder) was used instead of merely tossing in an extra thickener to make the ink dry more betterer

There were a few that required the addition, and additional ink was not the correct answer...

The drop is expansion specific, BUT more common than the drying powder, and in every zone (except maybe raid zones) instead of just some of the zones like highland sludge was.

Are we talking about the drop Sample of Highland Sludge which is used to make Sample of Filtered Highland Sludge & then Highland Sludge Drying Powder? It's been a while since I've tried to farm some, but I think the zone drops are more restricted than every zone in GoD. I've never seen it drop in Natimbi, Riwwi, Barindu, Ferubi, Qinimi, Vxed, or Tipt.

I also am a little confused by Ngreth's response hehe

Sample of Highland Sludge makes Filtered Highland Sludge, which in turn makes Highland Sludge Drying Powder, which is used in a bucketload of alchemy recipes and also only 5 spell research recipes.

Sample of Highland Sludge was only mob dropped beyond Kod'Taz, meaning only in the previously flag-locked "mountain" zones (Qvic, Yxtta, Inktu'ta, Txevu). The same zones in which you will find Mountain wheat or Mountain tea leaves. Perhaps it drops in additional zones now, but it used to be mountain region only.

Sample of Taelosian Sludge is the sister item that drops all over the lower open access zones (Natimbi, Qinimi, etc) and I believe can also be foraged along with Taelosian wheat and Taelosian tea leaves.

That's my recollection and I'm sticking to it

Ngreth's answer here is refering to how the *new* additional component for the *new* recipes will be distributed in the *new* zones from the next expansion.

He is not explaining the drop situation of Sample of Highland Sludge in GoD .

That's fair enough, I misread his post.
