Hello! I'm struggling to get my spell research going. Does spell research still work with the new system in place?

Does spell research work? Yes.

Does the old spell system as you knew it still work? Pretty much, no.

Do most of the old spell research recipes still work? No. However, some recipes, like the luclin swatches, do still work.


If you look through some of the posts you can get an understanding of the new system and how it works. But, as for the basics, you need to make the following:


Quill (based on the class/classes that use the spell)

Thickener (based on target type)

Ink Additive (based on the spell type)

Ink / Inks (based on the properties of the spell)

Hide / paper / papyrus / vellum (based on the level of the spell)



That's it to making the new spells.

As for leveling up there are a variety of new options to do that including starting quests, inks, solution parts, solutions, binding powders and lots and lots of spells.

You can visit the research vendor in Abysmal Sea or Crescent Reach and jumpstart your research to a 54 skill by making the "simple" artifacts they request to assist them. The NPC supplies the components required.
If you skill is already 54+ I'd suggest talking to the halfling npc (Coordinator)outside of West Freeport in the tent and get the task for completing your research trophy. It's a bit of running around, but well worth the time. Good luck!
