Trying to get started in spellresearch, need help.

Hi,

My alt is 54 enchanter with spell research 20 (bought with experience points).
Last night I made an attempt at getting started with spell research. I first made an attempt to combine left and right pages (ie.:Tasarin's Grimoire 26 (Left) and Tasarin's Grimoire 26 (right)). both page numbers were the same, they were opposite sides, and there were on 1 page each (not stacked). I attempted the combine both in the spell research kit (yes, I made sure it wasn't a sewing kit) and in my class specific tome (Phantasmal Tome). Both combine attempts resulted in the message "You cannot combine these items in the container type", or something closely similar. Even a faded page, which this site says need to be combined by itself (which I did), had the same result. Am I missing something? I'd really like to get into this tradeskill, but so far I'm not making much progress...Thank You

They've changed all that to a systematic version. There's a couple good posts on how to do it now, but definately do the Crescent Reach freebie quests to get your skill to 54, then go get your trophy quest. Take a look at a few of the other posts below and you'll find what you're looking for. Skill up path to 108ish, should include Vial of Pure Water (you'll need absolutely tons of em), aqua regia, aqua fortis, and vial of muriatic acid. =) I think I got all that right.

Don't remember what level the binding powders start, but they can be a great way to get skill-ups. The end result isn't all that spectacular, but they (esp the lower ones) tend to be pretty cheap in the baz.

I did attempt to get the newbie quest going, but couldn't find the NPC. Even with "find" I was able to track down every other quest givers for the other tradeskill, but one for spell research wasn't there. I'll give it another shot tonight. Anyways, thanks, hopefully I can get on the right path here.

Just another quick questions. Are all those pages, words and runes useless now? I've been saving them up on 3 accounts since lv1, and I'd hate to wrongfully sell them to a vendor.

Be sure you are looking in Crescent reach and not Abysmal (there is not one in abysmal)

You cannot make spells with them, but any other combines that use them are still valid. Some are used to make LoY ribbons with tailoring. There is a sticky post HERE that tells you which ones you should save.
