  • Blessing of Temperance

I have been trying to make this cleric spell and keep getting the error message you can not combine, etc, etc. I have looked the receipe up on both Allakazam and EQ Traders and this is what I am using. What am I doing wrong?

Spell Research Components: Fine Supple Runic Hide, Ink Additive of the Nameless, Ink of the Tribunal, Ink of Tunare(2), Quill of the Archon, Talisman Thickener In: Spell Research Kit

    Thank you for any help/advice.....

    Combine server?

It would be great if the Combine server gave a Combine-specific message when you have the right recipe, but the wrong era.
I tried combining Celestial Solvent, a Raw Rough Hide, Rough Hide Solution and a Skinning Knife. But the result was such an oxymoron, it opened a rift into another universe. I fell through into one of Nodyin's spreadsheets and was slain by a misplaced decimal.

          Obvious things to check:

-make sure you are using a Spell Research kit, not a sewing kit of some kind (yes, I have done such a boneheaded thing before)
-make sure you compare each component in your inventory to the recipe (some of the thickeners are the same color, it's easy to make a mistake, and as for teh hides/parchments, it's easy for your eyes to deceive you into thinking a Fine Runic Hide is a Fine Supple Runic Hide - yes, I've done that too!)
-put the Ink of Tunare in UNSTACKED
-you are an INT caster, right? 'cause if you are a cleric, you can't do Spell Research, hehehehe...

Yes, Combine is the Progression server, if a certain expansion in which a recipe was released is not unlocked yet, they wouldn't be able to make that item.

But since you are on Tunare, this doesn't apply to you.

I'd add one more thing to that. Blessing of Temperence is level 45. Spells that are level 5,10,15...45, pose a special hazard, because the name of the raw hide is so similar to the name of the finished hide. So...
            - check that you're using a Fine Supple Runic Hide, NOT a Raw Fine Supple Runic Hide.

The message is actually different if you leave them stacked. It's also different if you try to use a cleric to do the combine.

Well, dumb me. I checked all the suggestions you made, checked all my ingredients...oh wait, look, you left one out!! I made the spell quite quickly when I put ALL the ingredients in my Spell Research Book! Thankyou for all your advice and help, though. And yes I am an int caster and have 243 in research but it is getting so complicated I think I am just going to give it up. Thanks again!

I actually want to do something (that would be general, not combine specific) but more informative.

"You do not meet the requirements to make this"

it is at least different enough from a general failure message to give you an idea in the correct direction of what the issue is.

I have a researching Necro on the Combine server that I managed to get to 200 skill before research was changed. I gave her a rest until the past couple days because it became just too frustrating to try a combine and get a "cannot combine" message. I wound up with bags of stuff that I could not use until SoF opened. Don't give up, just take a vacation from Research. I am now the happy owner of spells I did not expect to get at all. Now if I could just stuff my bags a little tighter .......

While you are taking a vacation from research, start collecting Refiend and Intricate Binding Powders. These provide a relatively simple path to 300.

I couldn't have put it better myself...

I know it's just a rant, but personally I think designers of new system went over the top with raw hide series. They're having a laugh!! I know it's meant to be logical, especially when compared against old system.

And yes it IS logical at the fundamental level, but macroscopically they overkilled it especially with multiple treatments on raw ones... Normal version, then Cleaned, Smooth, Pristine, Treated etc. then the hides themselves, raw rough hide, raw hide, raw supple hide, raw fine hide, raw fine runic hide, raw fine supple runic hide etc etc

                        WHAT.THE.HELL.

Oh I came up with a new one. Extravagant Prolific Glossy Superior Fine Supple Runic Hide? It can be Cleaned, Dry-cleaned, Steam-pressed, Ironed and Deep fried. Run over with a horse to make Hoof Stamped Fine Supple Runic Hide. Don't forget a pinch of salt and dash of vinegar. Microwave for 10 minutes.

Seriously though. When I 1st learned of this I thought it was a big practical joke by the developers. Talk about over egging the system.

                          Was just me
I have a limited time to come up with multiple unique names... Do better, you have 1 hour!
Not doing it for laughs, but for consistency and enough names for 55 different ones that are consistent, not too close to names of OTHER items in game (so no pelts or skins or leather or parchment, paper, vellum or papyrus which was already used...)

and it has to only be one drop per 5 levels, and has to be something flexible that can be written on.

I thing I've suggested this before, although I do believe it probably is too late to change now, but I would have really like to have seen the stationery divided a little more "Systematically".

The stationery type would have been divided into groups of 10, which would span 10 levels. This would have been things like Spell Scroll (for lvl 40 span), Papyrus (for lvl 50 span), Parchment (for lvl 60 span), Vellum (for lvl 70span) , Paper (for lvl 80 span) etc.

Next each stationery would be given a STANDARD level of quality from 1 - 10 via a prefix like:

                            1 - Brittle
                            2 - Stiff
                            3 - Rough
                            4 - Crude
                            5 - Default (no adjective)
                            6 - Smooth
                            7 - Pristine
                            8 - Fine
                            9 - Runic
                            10 - Fine Runic

With this method when you saw a Brittle Parchment, or Pristine Spell Scroll, or Runic Vellum, you could easily identify thel scroll level (assuming you can remember the 10 levels of quality, and which stationary was associated with each).

Of course adding the recommended levels on the stationery did the same thing, but the system I mentioned above would probably make creating new stationary in the future MUCH easier and definatly fits the systematic approach.

Yeah well... Above 50, it's kinda just about right. it's just the pre 50 ones which they went over the top with. I think they could've removed all the different ways of treating the raw material. Or just have 1 raw material and have multiple treatments. Not both...
