  • Rough Paper - investigating its usage

I have a boatload of Smudged Rough Paper for which there are no reported uses (...beyond converting them to Rough Paper). I have the time and willingness to perform trial-and-error testing but don't really have a clue where to begin.

Anyone have tips they'd like to share as to a systematic approach for this kind of research?

...or should I not waste my time as this item is truly not used in any current spells (read: placeholder for future expansion).

Experimentation will not lead to recipe discovery in this context. These are the components for future research recipes which do not yet exist. These may or may not be associated with an expansion release, but they will be level 71 spells. (And the other papers will be 72-75.) Depending on how you add up the time line, some of these may appear as early as this summer or as late as 2010.

Through spoilers released around the same time as TSS, we know that the papers are associated with some of the spells from TSS and TBS. We know the recipes aren't in-game yet. We don't actually know which spells will be available or when. (Actually, I believe there is one no-trade enchanter spell made from the papers.)

Historically, the spells made using research are not vendor-bought nor raid-based. For TSS, that strongly suggests we'll be making rank 2 spells, but I wouldn't make any assumptions, and it's even sketchier for TBS.

I tried combining Celestial Solvent, a Raw Rough Hide, Rough Hide Solution and a Skinning Knife. But the result was such an oxymoron, it opened a rift into another universe. I fell through into one of Nodyin's spreadsheets and was slain by a misplaced decimal.
