  • Request Re: Recipes

Would it be at all possible to implement a system like the cultral patterns for Stationery Solutions such that you read (click) a book and you automatically learn all the recipies?

I would never suggest it for spell recipies, but with 75 solutions currently, and the number only go up, it seems like a perfect candidate for such a system. (Ideally it would include how to CLEAN the stationery with the solution as well , so 150 recipies)

    Possible yes.

I consider research more of a "practice" type thing though.

oof can we at least make it so that if the solution is trivial to a player by 50 or more (my skill is 300 so, for example, anything below 250) that it can be made in batches? it makes no sense to have to create them one at a time when they're liquid (so conceivably i could mix up a whole bunch at once and bottle it) and a trivial combine. should be able to whip those bad boys up in groups of 5-10 and have them stack up to 100.

Thats a coding issue heh ngreth is the wrong person to ask (short answer... no) (long answer... it takes to much time to make such a large back end change to recipes et al to make what appears to be a trivial change from the front end... also making large back end changes on 10 year old code by programmers who do not know, cannot go ask for help from, and who may not even BE ABLE to ask for help from the original programmers (due to they no longer work for Sony or even they NEVER worked for Sony or possibly even its been 10 years and they're dead of a heart attack or something is well... not advised))

But the short answer is... no.

out of all the tradeskills (i've reached 300 in all of them on one char or another) i find research to be the most cumbersome and tedious with the most low triv subcombines for stuff like inks, solutions, quills, cleansers, vials of pure water. Making metal bits and acrylia studs doesnt compare. Or maybe i just find it more irritating in research for some reason so im biased? in any case the entire system was just reworked so it seems like some changes to do things like make vials of pure water (which you use a TON of) stack higher, or to make quill and ink or parch solutions learnable by purchasing a book and scribing the recipes, wouldnt have been that hard to put in (no matter who may or may not have died of a heart attack)

have talked about the rest before so cut it...

as for this one... the ability to have a learnable book did not exist at the time this system was made. So it was not available.

Additionally I really consider research something you "learn" as you go. so you have to learn the skills of making ink etc, not just have it handed to you.

I agree ... Ink, thinckeners, quills, additives etc I have no problem learning, cause they have the potential to be used in any recipie and there are only finite combinations.

My "frustration" is solely with the Stationery/solution. Currently there 75 recipies for the solution then 75 more for applying the solutions, and these numbers will only grow as the game does. Personally, I find it such a hassle to reference / learn the recipe for a new stationery (most are below level 60) that I would rather turn someone away then bother learning it for them.

Not quite right. There are only 26 recipes for solutions. They're used for the spells from level 50 to level 75. They're a diverse and interesting bunch actually. I agree with Ngreth, that there's education involved. For instance, did you know that every recipe from 50 to 63 uses one Aqua Regia, but every recipe above that contains an additional Muriatic Acid? I suspect at some point, we'll start using two Aqua Regia.

Applying solutions is always so cookie-cutter, there's not really any "learning" involved. Go ahead and make two scribable tomes:
                1. Every combine of the form: solution + dirty paper + celestial cleanser
                2. Every combine involving a Raw XYZ Hide.

I think I already know every one of them, but I wouldn't mind other people having an easier time of it.

I tried combining Celestial Solvent, a Raw Rough Hide, Rough Hide Solution and a Skinning Knife. But the result was such an oxymoron, it opened a rift into another universe. I fell through into one of Nodyin's spreadsheets and was slain by a misplaced decimal.
