  • Vial of Pure Water ... Have I got this right?

Just came back to EQ after a 3 year break and I am trying to wrap my head around the new research and this one thing in particular.

To make a ( Can't post links directly yet eqtraders.com/items/show_item.php?item=20928 ) Vial of Pure Water I need an ( eqtraders.com/items/show_item.php?item=1898 ) Empty Vial which requires 3 x ( eqtraders.com/items/show_item.php?item=20928 )Vial of Pure Water????

Am I reading this correctly? I need to have made Vial of Pure Water to make Vial of Pure Water?

I realize I can also buy the Empty Vials, thankfully. I am just looking for clarification that I didn't read that wrong.

You buy empty vials... I dunno why they put a recipe in to make them.

I believe you need 5 Empty Vials, 4 Water Flasks, and 1 Gnomish Heat Source to yeild 5 Vials of Pure Water.

Remember that they will not combine in "stacks".

I believe you are looking at the recipe for making "Empty Vial"

To make Empty Vial (Spell Research: Yield 4, trivial 15 (No-Fail)), (Restricted) Combine the following in a Spell Research Kit

        * Vial of Pure Water (3)
        * Dirty Empty Vial

Now, why anyone would spend the time and effort to construct Empty Vials is beyond me. The merchant-sold Empty Vials cost a whole 3 gold.

I left this in as an "option"

During the process of making acids you end up with some dirty vials.

I created a way to clean them.

Using them is of course players choice.

The ogre is an environmentalist. And like most environmentally aware ways to do things, cleaning vials costs more than just getting new ones.

The extra recipe has confused a lot of people actually.
I tried combining Celestial Solvent, a Raw Rough Hide, Rough Hide Solution and a Skinning Knife. But the result was such an oxymoron, it opened a rift into another universe. I fell through into one of Nodyin's spreadsheets and was slain by a misplaced decimal.

Just buy your empty vials from the vendor.

Sell your dirty empty vials back to the vendor and let him worry about cleaning them.

That's the way the world works.

Player Characters slay dragons and win glory.
                Non-player Characters clean dishes.

Ugh. Is it my day to be an NPC again?

Originally, the empty vials were not sold on the research vendors. You had to buy them in PoK, Abysmal, or Neriak and bring them to Corathus Creep. Cleaning the dirty vials would let you get more combines out of your vials before you had to restock. I think that lasted a month at most before they decided to make our lives a bit easier.
