    Hello all,

Just recently my hubby and I returned to EQ after being away for 6 years. We have been having a great time and are already up to level 54. However, I am starting to have trouble finding all my spells and so have started research. My question is, how do I find new recipes? Thanks for any help and my apologies if this is a stupid question.

Ok, I see a few people have looked at this post but no answers. Let me give more details.

So far I have finished the beginning research quests in Crescent Reach and I am up to a skill of 54. However, when I open up my spell research kit, only 5 or 6 recipes show up, all of which are the ones I have already done. I did look up a recipe( Vial of Pure Water-something like that) and tried to make it but got the message that I couldn't combine those materials in that container. My hubby has been doing alchemy and he can't figure it out either, apparently all of his recipes just show up. Or maybe he can't remember how he got them, we have had this issue before

At any rate, any advice would be greatly appreciated. I am playing a Mage and my hubby a Shaman on Luclin, so if I can't figure this out maybe there is someone I can buy the spells from. So many of the old zones are not even hunted anymore and since we are in no hurry to level, I would like to get all the spells I can. Thank you.

I started spell research with an alt in order to acquire spells my main did not have. I found all of my recipes by searching on EQtraders and then using the experiment option of my research book. Once I successfully made a recipe by experimenting, I would receive a "You have learned a new recipe" message and could then find it by searching with my spell research book.

Experimenting with the recipe for "Vial of Pure Water" should work. I'll ask the obvious (to me) questions:
-- What are you using to do the combine?
-- You are not stacking components, correct?

I have an alchemy alt as well. Most of the recipes I wanted to make were already searchable but there was one or two that I had to experiment to learn. However, I don't remember which they were.

You are both possible useing the wrong containers? I know the vial of pure water takes ten unstacked items to make.5empty vials,4flasks of water and a gnomish heat source. You can get skill from makeing aqua regia's but need to vendor mine sulphurs and salt peters in mass quanitys. You maybe even able to sell the aqua regia's since they sell for 150ish and you can make em alot cheeper yourself.Hope this helps :-)

Thank you for the replies, I was not stacking but I think I didn't have the right amount of water flasks. I will check into it when I get home from work today. I probabely just got frustrated too quickly, my kids were going wacko when I was trying to figure it out, plus the more I read about it the more I get confused.

There are a lot of parts for spells now, but it is not too complex.

Read through this thread to get the basic concept of new research:
            http://www.eqtraders.com/articles/ar...r=080105000000

Then this thread for how it is transplanted to the lower lvl spells:
            http://mboards.eqtraders.com/eq/showthread.php?t=27282

Take your time and review them both they explain a lot and should help clear things up some.

There is a research guide at the bottom of this forum list, you can try there for some suggestions. From 54 I would recommend working primarily on the Parchment Solutions and/or parts for them as listed below:

102 Oil of Vitrol, Aqua Fortis, Aqua Regia (Save all of them).

Start building parchment solutions and save them for later use (some are listed below):

            144 Parchment Solution
            174 Fine Parchment solution
            203 Vellum Parchment solution
            216 Fine Vellum Parchment solution
            243 Runic Parchment Solution

These get expensive, but you need to make the investment now or later. At least by doing them now you can do some skill ups at the same time.

With the new research system there are many options for skilling up by making spells, but you will be constricted by the number of avialable parts. Find what works for you.

I would not waste the tons of plat it will take to skill-up making solutions. Your best bet is to collect the various binding powders and go that route. There are several excellent posts on this already in these forums. Each powder can give you the opportunity for 2 skill-ups. They all follow a very systematic pattern which makes it very easy with little effort. Hope this helps.

Forgot to mention that this method can take you to 300 very easily.

Thank you, I will try that. I have not been playing much the past few days but I will give it a go

A lot of the path you chose will be based on preferences and play styles. When I skilled up, I was doing it to make spells for myself, firends and to sell to help break even on all the costs (even while farming as much as possible).

Go with what works for you.

Edit: Binding Powders do look like a viable option provided you have sufficient supply. I still recommend the solution and spell route as a way to fund your way through.
