  • New to spell research and have a problem/question.

Hello, I've read every possible sticky and searched a variety of sites so hopefully someone can help me as I've failed to discover the answer so far.

I'm attempting to make 2 spells via the new research method.

The first spell is called Intensify death(lvl 23). It targets my pet and buffs STR, AC, and gives Haste.

I attempted to combine the following in my Spell Research Kit:

Smooth Fine Hide x1, Quill of the Arch Lich x1, Ink Additive of the Nameless x1, Invigorating Thickener x1, Ink of the Rhino x1, Ink of Alacrity x1, Ink of the Tribunal x1

this results in a "Does not combine in this container message."

The second spell is called Haunting Corpse(lvl 24). It is a pet summon.

I attempted to combine the following in my Spell Research Kit:
Pristine Fine Hidex1, Quill of the Arch Lich x1, Ink Additive of the Nameless x1, Conjuring Thickener x1, Ink of the Companion x1, Bone Chips x1

this results in a "Does not combine in this container message."

If anyone happens to know or see what I did wrong please let me know as this is quite frustrating and I cannot get the spells any other way. Thanks!

Ok.. first off. the recipes listed by me came directly from the website here by doing a search from the main page. EQtraders
Second... if you notice, Both of them are Necro only, and require either a Book of dark Bindings or a Warlock's book of Binding... neither use the Spell research kit.

maybe try your recipes in a different book first, to see if your recipe works in a Necro only book.... otherwise, I'd go with the reciepes listed in the database.

I know about the old method of creating the spells but I was under the impression that when TSS came out that you could use Systematic Research to create spells of any level which is why the raw hides were introduced.

I guess I figured this was the case as there are books describing how to do this on vendors in Crescent Reach and I haven't seen a single word drop in Blightfire Moors or Crescent Reach.

If I have to go level in old world zones at the random chance of getting word drops that probably will never come I'll just skip trying to research the spells and enjoy the new TSS zones that I haven't seen before.

Thanks and sorry for the (apparently) pointless post

EDIT: And when I said that I couldn't get them any other way I meant that they are only available through research. I was sincerely hoping the new method would work as I find it far easier to accomplish =/.

Sadly far too many people use that and hot zones as reasons to no go to old world zones. It is too bad too because they have plenty to offer.

Anyway, other options would be to search the bazaar (it's not TSS, but maybe you can make a side trip over) and or auction for or put a buyer (while you are AFK) to purchase the spells you need.

As stated previously the old spell research is going away. Read more about it here: http://mboards.eqtraders.com/eq/showthread.php?t=29903

I have mixed emotions about the whole topic. While the changes will make it easier to get spells like the ones you are looking for, there was definitely a lot more sense of accomplishment farming the spell parts and making for myself the spells I needed for my enchanter, that will be gone now. Such is the way of life I guess.

Only LDoN spells were made researchable with TSS, all the "classic research" spells using words, runes, pages, etc wee not converted to systematic research....they WILL be though, when SoF expansion comes out.

I may end up farming for the words anyway as I tend to be a completionist. The problem with buying stuff from the bazaar is that I'm starting from scratch and money will become a problem if I spend it all on words.

              Thanks for the replys!

Vendor diving works too, find out where the words drop and check vendors close by..most people don't bother to save research parts (unfortunately, many don't bother to even loot them).
I just leveled a necro through Blightfire, and I ended up buying the words in the bazaar (checking every night before I camped). I made enough money selling silks/pelts I gained while leveling to cover the costs.
The part that actually was the most difficult was getting the skill neccesary to do the combines. Old style research trivials are significantly higher than systematic research for spells of the same level. So the hide drops you are getting won't get you the skill needed to do the old style spells (Sunshard dust will however).

any necro researcher on Quellious that needs words for skillups, let me know, I have lots of Words of Crippling Forrce and Words of the Ethereal (both are one page combos) and also Words of Odus + Words of Grappling, to give away, since my baby necro skilled up past the trivial (186)

Also, any wizards on Quellious needing runes...I stored a ton (for spells 50+) on a corpse in Shadowrest, if someone wants em before SoF launches, contact me.
