  • When will RK. II spell be researchable?

    I am wondering If I will have an use in the short term for the odd paper I have cleaned up as I worked up to 243?

    If: probably.
    When: I do not know yet. Not for a while.

      With the release of TSS LDoN and OoW spells just became researchable.

      OoW is 3 expansions behind TSS. Before TSS spells become researchable, there's DoN, DoDh and PoR expansion spells to consider...which ones, if any, might become researchable.

      Also, the "Classic" and Loy-era research could use a revamp/conversion to the systematic method.

      All of this takes time and as Ngreth stated, there is no eta.

        Ideally never .... make it Rk III Plz

        Although now that we know that not all spells have a rank III, some rk II will be desired. Im guessing a new "Highland Sludge Drying Powder" type ingredient will need to be introduced.

        As for when they become available, my guess would be when the lvl cap gets raised to lvl 80.

          Oh, ok I was under the impression the 2 year gap cycle had changed with the introduction of the 3 teir system. I was hoping rk3 would stay on that cycle but the rk2 would come earlier.

            I'm assuming rk. III are going to be treated like Ancients and never be researchable.

              probably.

              That is not to say never, just probably not going to happen.

                rk2

                I think, by the time RK2 spells become researchable, they will be so cheap that it would only be good for skilling up. As supply meets demand for the spells, I see the prices drop daily. With the trend, the Rk2s will be dirt cheap by the end of summer.

                  But by the end of summer 2 more expansions will be out. The trend for spells in the past has been for the market to get saturated fairly quickly, but as people move on to newer zones (where the spells don't drop) supply drops faster than demand. So if TBS has new zones that become the most popular xp spots, we might actually see TSS Rk.II prices start going up a month from now.

                    The problem is... this expansion did a huge number on the research department anyway. Rank 1 spells are way too easy to get, which means if someone is willing to tough out five more levels, almost anything you will combine at 69/70 gets upgrades. Some wont, but some will.

                    On top of that, the design for Rank 2/3 was excessively lackluster imo. I have little care for BSG2 over 1, especially at the cost of bazaar prices, let alone willing to waste my time trying to farm it. But that's similar with every spell in my book. Very few even broke a 100 upgrade over rk2... and even then, the mana efficiency stayed exactly the same (mana costs for rk2 were boosted). Ultimately, the Rank system was a disappointment... especially when you factor in the massive stacking issues they cause for raids when it comes to buffing.

                    All in all, the expansion did a great job in making some extremely important spells available to classes that needed them as they level (vs ya know...farming runes for months on end). I'll openly admit though, DoDh spells and PoR might be good when/if they surface.

                      No, not really. The expansion after The Buried Sea will likely come out in November, assuming that they hold to the recent schedule.

                        I wasn't aware it was going to change from the Feburary/September schedule. So I based that on the next one coming out the last week of summer, like TSS/DoDH/OoW.
                        In any event, even if the Rk. II market fizzles, I suspect there will still be a healthy market for the mage summoned gear (though small).

                          I agree with you concerning most buffs, especially HP buffs. However, when you start dealing with heals and DD you have to take AA and foci into account. When you factor those things in, those small differences begin to multiply.

                          Looking at the level 71 Wizard spell Tears of the Betrayed as an example
                          rk1 = 1460
                          rk2 = 1519
                          rk3 = 1577
                          The difference between rk1 and rk2 is only 117, truely lack luster. However, if you factor in a 20% focus for non-raiders (rk1 and rk2) and a 30% focus for raiders (rk3) we get (pretty much random percentages, I don't know what the foci percentages really are since I don't have a Wizard)
                          rk1 = 1752
                          rk2 = 1822
                          rk3 = 2050
                          Now the difference has jumped to 298. Factoring in AA and crits and you see even bigger differences.

                            That's a bad example since rain spells can't be damage focused at all. But your point still stands.

                            On the flip side, you have to consider that many people (even raiders) are still using pre-TSS focus which actually degrade on higher level spells.

                              Sure, while I agree that the damage goes up, so does the mana cost.

                              Tears of the Betrayed 658 mana 1460 base damage
                              Tears of the Betrayed Rk. II 684 mana 1519 base damage
                              Tears of the Betrayed Rk. III 710 mana 1577 base damage

                              Your mana efficiency does not get any better, focii give the appearance of that, but your focii will worth with any spells you have in the proper range. The other bonus with your rains vs DD comes in the fact that they hit three times so you can get a partial resist on on and still continue to get some damage from the other two.

                              In the end... RK2 and RK3 just are not worth much of anything. Mostly nothing more than a minimal upgrade that getting further encourages your feelings of wholeness than actually giving you a meaty upgrade.
