Skill up path???

The statement that you have to have a lot of plat to do Research is a bit exagerated, but kind of on key.
Skilling to the low 200 range is not all that expensive overall. If you lack the money to buy the gems and such to make things, farm PoI and Dulaks. Dulaks has a lot of PC models in zone that drop sulfur as well as parts and bloods which other tradeskillers use. Sold a lot of them in the bazaar and it helped. Same with PoI... it's Tinkerer's paradise more or less. That being the case, save everything that drops and sell it in the bazaar if it's not saltpeter.
Doing those two things alone will generate a healthy amount of plat. If you even get lucky, Creep Reapers in CC drop saltpeter almost every kill, as well as drop items for the AAAA combines, which sell fairly well in the bazaar. The other VT sells well too.
Mostly, research comes down to "If you have plat, you can do it the expensive fast way. If you lack the plat, you can do it at a slower and more thrifty way."
By all means, it's a very hard tradeskill. My means to getting started was making three copies of RGC and selling them to start out.

Ahhah now we get down to the crux of my question and I do not understand why I could not have put it thus eloquently< You have skilled up in flattery (10)>. I do most definately lack in Plat so the "Slower and more thrifty way? is what I am after.../grin. Divulge, please if you will, this golden path which I , a poor Gnomish tinker/researcher seek. <note the tinkere bit and you understand why I am broke.../grin> I eagerly await all such info in this line, oh and if you got some tinkering paths too then let er rip< in the appropriate tradeskill section of course >...lol.Originally posted by WyvernwillMostly, research comes down to "If you have plat, you can do it the expensive fast way. Pay less attention to the "farm these mobs for saltpeter/sulfur and sell their drops".
The reason for that?
There are much better places to farm for plat than poi/cc/dulaks, to such a degree where you can now completely avoid the need to farm saltpeter/sulfur by just buying regias and acids off the vendors.
The big expense with making solutions now (and it was this way originally too) is not the saltpeter/sulfur but the gems that you buy off the vendor.
Farm plat in some of the much better ways to do it, and never step foot into poi or corathus creep.
You'll be glad you did.

Keep in mind that if you are looking to save plat but don't mind spending the time...don't by the aqua regia/muratic acid from the vendor. Thos are what you make with the saltpeter/crystallized sulfur, so if you are farming those components you can make your own subcombines far cheaper. Farming these two means your only store bought components are empty vials, vials of water, gnomish heat sources and rock salt.
I believe a vial of muratic acid costs 75pp off the vendor....not a bad price if you are used to buying the saltpeter/sulfur in the bazaar, but way expensive compared to farming it yourself.2100 Tradeskiller
