  • Research Still Goes above 200 Without AA?

At the risk of asking a dumb question:
(ok, with the certain knowledge I'm asking a dumb question)

Is Research still one of those skills that doesn't care if you have other skills over 200? In particular, I have brewing at 250. I have Research at 200.

Research was climbing reasonably quickly in the 190s, maybe a point every 5 combines or so on average. It's done stalled at 200. I've done about 20 successful combines and it hasn't moved. The trophy has evolved 3% towards the next level, though.

So am I just being impatient, or do I owe the tradeskill gods 3 AAs?

No AA's are needed. You are just having a small bit of bad luck with the RNG.

20 combines without a skillup is not significant. I was averaging well under that in skilling to 250, with a 260 Int, but there were times when I'd go 40-50 combines without a skillup.

If you'd gone 200 combines without a skillup, I could see a reason to wonder. But 20? Nope ... just keep making those Solutions.

Or you can have my luck, which really didn't thrill me too much in trying to level my trophy before they maxed... I went from 225 to 243 in 73 combines. Granted, it's an amazing rate of skill gain, something I should have been happy about, but having almost 200 combines worth of stuff left over left me feeling a touch bitter and irritated. Especially since I have only 70% on the trophy atm.

Make em all anyway... if you make any serious attempt to skill up past 243 you will eventually use up all those solutions.

I ended up making solutions for the 63/64 spells in addition. If I skill up, it's not going to be on Runic Parchments any time soon. It's not worth the added waste of money at a higher failure rate that isn't even going to make my trophy happy.

I had a stash of parchments, 9-11 each of the 62, 63, 64 parchments, and 19 of the 65 parchments. Once I hit 243 and had them cleaned, I used all of the 62-64 parchments to make spells for my necro, then to put into my guild's bank. These got me to 250.

I made 17 out of 18 level 65 spell combines successfully, with the trophy being at 0% in the 250-300 range (expert? I forget the nomenclature for the different levels) with Arcane Tongues 3, at a base skill of 250. I wouldn't worry about the success rate on the runic parchments; I would worry that runics cannot advance the trophy until a skill of 251, so making lower level spells until you hit 251 at a minimum can help both your trophy, and your later skilling (when those lower level spells are already trivial).
