And I never really said when "later" was exactly, it's just not at skill 1. I'll leave a link to the FAQ and let them decide.
Just to clarify a point though, the geerlok will no longer be needed once the trophy has the same (+5%), which is when it evloves to 4/7 (which could happen even before your skill gets to 200, depending on luck).

One thing to think about. If you get the trophy task at level 50 and skill up higher, and then complete the task, you'll get a certificate to evolve your trophy to your current skill level.

I have been trying to test several aspects of skilling-up verse completing trophies and there is more to follow, but at least I can confirm this part is incorrect. When you compelte the 1/7 trophy, you only receive the 1/7 trophy without a certificate.

I started the task at 95 skill, completed all parts, but saved one turn in. Then leveled to 101 skill, then compelted turn in. You get the score card, which is turned in for a the 1/7 trophy. You do not get a certificate with the 1/7 trophy. The trophy did not evolve either, it remained at 0%.

I am curretly skilling up another toon to the 135 range, and then will get the 2/7 quest, complete the combines and save until I get over 150 skill and see what happens. I also want to test again under the same conditions but going over 200 skill before completing the test, getting scorecard to turn in for trphy. More to follow as I get time to work on it and test. I opted to avoid hurting my Wife_of_the_House faction and spent the weekend keeping her happy. =)

I just now completed another test, started with 195 skill, then did final turn in after skilling up to 200 and received the completion scroll. After doing a certificate combine (with the 1/7 trophy equiped) the trophy only evolved to 99% of the level of the test completed (3/7 Freshman, 150 to 199, as I started the test with 195 skill).

It might be a bit before I test higher, but I see no reason it will go higher being another tier higher.

            I'm lost. Please help

Seems I am lost on all this. I have been mostly playing my 68 Druid and recently logged on my Necro and started trying to level up research but went broke. I read the posts about DOD sub combines but when I went to look up needed items in Bazar I almost fell over. Some of the combine items were over 9k. I have a skill level of 174 and would appreciate any help on the best way for me to level up research so I can make my own spells.

For necro buy words of crippling force or words of the ethereal until 182. Then start on dodh subcombines. vellum parchment->fine vellum parchment->runic....its all here if you look for it in this forum, been said many times.

If you concentrate on just doing the parchment solutions, you'll find it is less expensive. Actually making the spells themselves, where you have to buy parchments (level 65 parchments for 9k) does get quite expensive.

Would you care to estimate the cost of going that route (solutions vs solutions + spells) from 174 to...say 230-40 range?

From what I have read that range (+AAs) gets you a decent success rate. The context of this is having 2 toons that are 59 who will be needing up to lvl 65 spells shortly and where that price break is.

I spent roughly 300k doing solutions from 202 to 242. I stockpiled all of my solutions on a mule, and then used them all up making spells after I was 242 and Mastery-3 AA.

Obviously you can do it slower, and cheaper, by farming your own ingredients (saltpeter and crystalized sulfer).

1 thing I didn't mention is getting the AAs as soon as you can do them. I bought mine while working up solutions, and made sure I had level 3 before I started making the actual spells.

I vendermine alot, so I buy every saltpeter and crystalized sulfer I see, plus the few odd parchments which are rare on venders. I also solo PoI to help evolve my clock, which nets me more saltpeter (and stuff for my tinkerer too $$$). I buy every high level words, yaeths, dew clover etc. I've gotten to 190 without having to make parchment solutions yet, but have a huge stockpile for when I do.

As for my trophy post, I did mine early so it was probably changed in one of the patches.

Of course there is no tradeskill in Abysmal Sea for research. Research is not a tradeskill, if you want to get technical about it.

The "LoY Research" kit is actually also buyable in Abysmal Sea now (and apparently also W Freeport and Crescent Reach) so Swatches pre-100 might still be do-able? Haven't tested this though.
