  • Missing skill points...

I'm sorry if this has been brought up elsewhere, I looked around and didn't see anything about this. If I missed it just point me in the right direction.

A while back, a month or so I think, I got my little chanter alt up to 182 in research. After that I stopped for a while to go scouting for stuff to make for the next skill level, so I didn't check that character for some time. Yesterday I noticed I had a few matching pages and tried a combine... yay I got a skill up!... wait.... 165??? I double checked, then petitioned. The answer I got was that they checked all my past save points and that the skill was never above 165.

I know I'm not losing my mind. I announced to my guildies that I'd gotten to 182, I combined several copies of a spell that trivials at 176 that I had previously been afraid to attempt because the components are hard to find, and I even sold off my remaining magi runes. Unfortunately I did not have my log files turned on *kicks self really hard*. I sent another petition explaining this, and also saying that the points are not the only thing and I'd really like to know what happened and that if it happens in the future I can get it fixed somehow. Really at this point I'm more interested in an explanation and some assurance that time raising the skill in the future won't be wasted. We'll see how that one turns out.

Anyone else had this happen? Could it be from the roll back? I didn't play for a while before the roll back, but I did log on the day of the rollback before it was complete. Not much changed about that character during that time so I have no idea if that character was rolled back or not. I was also wondering if it could have something to do with that other research bug with all the 254 skills.

    Thanks for any opinions.

Do you perchance have a 10% research augment item? Such as the Sanguine Robe?

the tradeskill interface will show your ajusted skill.

    165 + 10% = 181.5 rounded to 182.

so your skill was actually 165, interface showed your ajusted skill. When you checked again, you either looked at the skill listing or were not wearing that robe?

This is just a guess... I have heard of nothing in particular with lost skill.

oooo *drool* I wish I had one of those hehe. No, don't have any tradeskill modifiers. I mostly remember watching the little "you got better at" messages, and later double checking in the skills window before doing a tougher combine.

But since you mentioned it.... I gather that a modifier will show up in the tradeskill window, but NOT in the skills window or skillup messages.... is that right?

A modifier will show in the tradeskills window and the skills window.

It would be insanely confusing if it showed up in the actual skillup messages so it doesn't.

If you have a modifier equipped, it will show your number in the skills window as the modified number, but it also turns it GREEN to alert you of the fact it isn't your "real" number.

Thanks for the info, that probably would have confused me sooner or later, I've never used a tradeskill modifier.

Last petition they told me to seek help from other players, so here I am hehe.
I'm having trouble understanding quite what the reply means, see if yall can translate for me: "I have looked into this and compared your character saves for the past 5 days and it was reflected that your skill has risen up to 165 maximum. However, it is quite possible that you might have aquired an increase in them but the skill gets adjusted according to your level as well, once you camp your character or zone. As per our end, all the skills have been working as intended. Please seek assistance from other players, if you have any further concerns." Then standard appology for inconvienience and a plug to the online knowledge base. This has been, word for word, the same reply to my last two petitions from two different GMs. After the first "past 5 days" reply I thought well maybe I didn't explain correctly, and I petitioned again making sure that I noted that my skill was 182 well before 5 days ago, more like a month or more. I also explained that I'm not as concerned with getting the points back, but would like to know how to go about getting a reimbursement next time should it happen again. Don't want them to think I'm just a jerk trying to get a free ride for 17 more points. I also didn't go ranting and raving at them, I know better than that, just explained it the best I could. In the second petition I also asked if this character had been rolled back, but they didn't say. Just this same response.

So uhh.... whats this about being adjusted by level? My little chanter is only 22, but I thought they took the level cap off research completely, was I wrong? Or does that mean that maybe the skill showed wrong at one time, due to a bug or whatever, and then was "fixed" when I logged or zoned? If that's the case I really don't think so, I remember counting each skill point as the message went by up to 182, and then getting the "you can no longer increase your skill with this recipe" message.

So, before I go on with this, have I missed something glaringly obvious here? Was I wrong about the level cap? What I'd really like to happen here, assuming this hasn't been an oversight on my part, is to find out if it is possible to get reimbursed if it happens again. And it would be a nice perk to know exactly what happened. If I keep my logs on when I'm tradeskilling to keep up with the skill increase messages would that serve as proof? Or will they take that for evidence? So far research has been kinda fun to work on, but the idea of just mysteriously losing any more points I may get later on when it gets harder/more expensive disturbs me, especially if it can't be fixed.

/goes back to poking at the "add comment" button hoping it will change it's mind and work.

              roll back casualty?

Did you by chance skillup around the time that characters were rolled back? I know the roll back was recently ... maybe not a month ago, but it would account for the lost skill points.

Actually no. I skilled up to that point about a month or so ago, maybe a little more. Then I didn't play at all for several weeks, and then started playing a little again the day of the rollbacks. I was wondering about that myself. I don't even know if this character was rolled back since I didn't play for so long and so little changed. I asked them if it could have something to do with the rollback, and if I had been rolled back, but they didn't answer either question.

My guess is you did get rolled back. Even though you hadn't played for quite some time, the last 'save' they rolled you back to would have most probably been when you were still 165 skill Had you logged in the day before the disasterous patch error then you most likely would have only been rolled back to that date. But seeing you hadn't played for a while they had to roll back to the last time you did play - whenever it was.

If you had done any form of trade at all with anyone 'tainted' by the beta npc merchant inventory, then you would have been rolled back. You may have bought from a player in bazaar, given or been given a flower, or food or anything like that could have caused you to be flagged for the rollback.
