  • where do i start???

good grief... this new spell research stuff is over whelming! i am currently at 212 research skill and want to start working on the new stuff to get higher. but there is just so many sub-combines.

i read to work on parchment solutions up to like 243. but that looks like alot of work also.

    so here is my question.

what pattern do you guys use? what zone to start in, how much of each to buy before you go onto next part of the sub combines and so forth. i am gonna need a new pair of shoes after all the running around i am going to be doing...

    thanks guys/gals

If you are skilling up on solutions, do it all in Abysmal Sea (the only zone where all the parts are sold for solutions). Buy or farm as much sulfur and saltpeter as you can (you will use it all and want more). One trick to cut down on the running around some: Fill your inventory with water from the general supplies merchant next to the bank, and then sell it all the the jewelcraft vendor (where you will be doing all of your combines). I usually buy the salt first, and grind it (you want half as much salt as you have sulfur until you get to fine vellum solution, then you need 2/3). Then just start making oil of vitrol.

To keep things straight I make things a stack at a time. For instance, I'm working skill on Runic Parchment Solution. I get my water (6-8 stacks) and salt (6 stacks). Then I make 3 stacks of Oil of Vitrol. Turn one into Aqua Fortis. Turn the other 2 into Muriatic Acid. Combine my Aqua Regia. If I have any failures I 'fill in the cracks' until I have 1 stack Aqua Regia, 1 stack Muriatic Acid...always have plenty of water leftover. Then I just grab a stack of plat/gold bars and star rubies and make my solution. Take stock of my sulfur and saltpeter and repeat. I usually hold off on skilling up until I have a couple bags full of sulfur/saltpeter.

There just aren't a lot of choices available for research. Old world (pre-DoD) research caps at 226. The DoD parchment solutions cap at 243. Above 243 your stuck doing DoD spell combines which the parchments may not be readily available for and are expensive to buy.

I'm sitting at 230 myself and have just done parchment solutions from 200 up (was at 200 for years before the cap was raised).

Bascially, grab 80 saltpeter and 60 crystalized sulfer. Also get 4 stacks of water. And then head to Cora creep and start doing the subcombines until you get them all loaded into the UI and just work your way through it.

It's pretty hard to explain it, you have to actually do the work to understand it better.

Make sure you save every solution you make too, if you are planning on skilling up on spells after 243. Runic spells still seem to give the best skillup rates for me, made 40 L63/L64 spells tonight without a single skillup hehe, so plan on being patient after 243 =)

i put it off for weeks myself, because it was so confusing >< finally just got stubborn and started plugging through it. do take water with you though, and it's nice to know the solution ratio is 4 saltpeter and 3 sulfur per combine. otherwise you'll do like i did and zone a LOT. after that, just dive in! you'll figure it out in no time =)

for making solutions, you can make them all in abysmal sea. once you have those all made up, figure out which thickeners you need, and make those in abysmal also (each combine yields 40 i think?). then when you're all set with those, stock up on some more purified waters to make your inks. after all that, head back to corathus creep to make your quills. and load up your second account with stacks and stacks and stacks and >>>>>>>>>>> woohoo!

helps to keep eqtraders recipe page open on your other computer, or alt-tab to it frequently, or print it out (however you like to do it).
