page 1 is given to you by belfast in Corantus creep by starting the scrapsof paper quest.

page 2,3 and 4 are made in the Spell Research Kit with the Mechanoinstruction scraps. there are 10 total and they combine to spell out the word "mechanotablet", "configuration", and "advisory book"
each page combines is called
"tatered mechanoinstrution page"

once that is done you turn the pages into belfast (be sure you have gotten the scraps of paper task fist or you'll be shafted) you will get the pages back as page 2, 3 and 4. you will then have to loot and turn in 5 clockwork pinion gears and 2 clockwork gears (random drops off the clockworks in the zone) once done that you will get page 5, combine as said before.

the paper is made by preparing some sporali skin with witheran bile and a skinning knife. take this prepared skin and bake it

aligning two bundles of pinion gears, two bundles of size AAA shafts, two burin bundles, two clockwork shafts, and a hole punch made to moxysmit's specifications, in a caseing especially made for this device. The alignment of this is extremely difficult can you may find yourself ruining the parts untill you have had a very large amount of practice at it. the casing is simply made in a forge my using a block of high quality steel, in a hinge mold, large container base mold, and large container lid mold. be sure to add some superb leather padding to that the vibrations of the holepoker do not

Identifying them shows they are different

when you got one go talk to belfast play around with this part it is buggy
he tells you got to the research merchant and pick up the kit.....you buy the kit

NOTHING happens
so talk to the FLETCHING merchant next to him open up the merchant and the task is done.(not sure if its just time elapsing or if opening the merchant next to me is the key)

regardless when you go see belfast this time make sure you got the mechanicalinstructions(sp?)

buggy as well then youll get one of two messagetypes for task completion mode

(seems like it might be different for melee then casters)
melee get a collect 9 itesm counter(got page 1 as well)

now im collecting parts I made the first tatter mechanicalinstruction(sp?)
I figured out that the letters spelled words.

I used three of the mechinstructs and placed them in order(using id) in the left column top to bottom.

I wouldnt do this if i were you......I would Collect all nine of the parts and then combine them up.

I combined the first set and now i can loot the lore pieces that made the first page so i actually have to loot 12 pieces just cuz i cant eliminate the possible combos

Quest done ( as per cleric class)

First you need to kill a Creep reaper until you get 1 Mechanoinstruction Scraps.

Go hail Bellfast. Do the prompts to get the task.
You will need to go back to one of the merchants near the bankers and
ask for pinion gears.
You deliver these to Bellfast.
He then asks you to collect 10 Mechanoinstruction Scraps.

Return to him and hand him the 10 you looted.
Upon handing them in, this will start a second task in which you need to
loot 5 Clockwork Pinion Gears and 2 Clockwork gears
You then hand those items into Bellfast to receive

You then get prompted further.
After doing the prompts, re-hail. You will then be given the next 3 tasks
(the next 3 books required to figure out the recipes)

I've (Cleric) been given the quest so I take it I can do it.

Afaik the items needed to make augs are tradeable apart from the last combine. The pre-combines are tradeskills specific but tradeable.
Won't go into details here.

clarification

ok it seems there are diff4erent quests for different people.

Enchanter(gnomes) quest

get a mechanicoinstruction talk to belfast
he tells you to get a research kit from the merchant
Bellfast gives you instructions page 1
THEN he says he needs 3 tattered mechanitablet and to make the tablets you got to combine 3 of the mechanicoinstruction pieces in a certain order.
Its pretty unclear at this point. So I identified the parts and they have letters and dashes that look like they form words. and I combined one set in the research kit and it formed a tattered mechanico tablet.
Ive been kiling creep reapers for ages now and have 7 of parts(dont combine the first page cuz youll end up like me and get duplicate parts to a page you already created)

There are actually 10 mechanoinstructions scraps.

3 used to spell Mechanotablet.
3 used to spell Advisory Book.
4 used to spell configuration.

Identify is your friend ... the letters aren't scrambled up or anything, just '.' where missing letters are.

You don't have to loot one off a creep reaper before you start the task .. they're tradeable, just need one in inventory to get page 1.
Don't even need to farm them, just do the combine and then turn in the pages, THEN you'll get to portion of task where you need to actually loot drops.

As a bard I did have to loot the 10 different scraps and then hand them in.

I removed task and started over, with no spell kit in bank/inventory.

Sorry, I was referring to the research capable version of the task.

For that version, you just need to combine the scraps to make the 3 pages to hand in to progress task to the mob loot steps of the task.

Also, once you go buy (hail) the NPC that sells the new research kit, that task step gets updated, and when you go back an re-hail Bellfast for the next step, you obtain page 1.

seems broken to me

when i hand in the pinion gears and clockwork gears and get the last page i combined the 5 pages and got the book. quest ended no dialog no new quest.

Perhaps i need to get another quest first?

im confused and lost at this moment.

what were the keywords for the dialog after the 1st book? thanks in advance

do i have to hand the book in or something?
