  • SK Level 65 Buff

    Runic Parchment
    Quill of the Dread Lord
    Ink of Pain
    Nameless Additive
    Invigorating Thickener

Confirmed DNC with the Drying Powder, but had two failures without it. I didn't think to get someone in group for the spell name. Anyone able to combine this and report please (out of runics myself)? I'm hoping it's Spell: Mental Horror, but not completely sure (might be the lifetap proc Spell: Black Shroud).

Chances are this is, as you hinted, the recipe for Black Shroud.
I've been trying too to research Mental Horror for someone, and no luck (so far )
Tried adding Ink of Prexus and even 2xInvigorating Thickener, but nothing.

My guess is that is black shroud, but it's hard to tell with all the recourse-type and buff proc-type sk spells. edit: ahh so it is, I read the rest of the thread =)

        Mental Horror is:
        - Runic Parchment
        - Quill of the Dread Lord
        - Ink of Prexus (it's a mana-affecting buff)
        - Nameless Additive
        - Invigorating Thickener

I did this combine myself in beta, so I know it works. I agree that adding ink of pain would have been more obvious to account for the DD portion of the proc, but alas, it is not used in this recipie. Buff procs seem to follow thinking of it as the buff as it sits on the player and its end result: in this case a mana buff and not a damage buff.

. You should not use the drying powder unless there is another lvl 65 spell that does the same thing from the PoP era, which there is not for Mental Horror. The trivial on lvl 65 spells is 351. Since most researchers have ~210 modified skill, that makes it a 5% success combine, meaning if you did 20 attempts, you might be lucky enough to get 1. For someone to have 50% chance of success, they need 262 modified skill (250 + 5%).

Thanks Xulan. I just realized that I was using Ink of the Nameless instead of the Nameless Additive...
I'm puzzled too about the lack of Ink of Pain on it, but your explanation makes sense.

Take a look at the first page of this thread (scroll down a bit to post #17 for specific combines).

The only thing you really need would be Saltpeter and Crystallized Sulfur. Assuming you already have a runic parchment, you'll need 4 Saltpeter and 3 Crystallized Sulfur in total in order to clean it. After that, everything else is either bought from vendors, or made from components sold at the vendor.

                All Info for Mental Horror

Okay, I got sick of researching what was required to create a Mental Horror scroll and decided to compile a full listing for those only interested in what's neccessary to obtain this valuable spell. Although it's not needed, I retained the listing for working other parchments as well as general information on researching just in case you need it. The original post (by CaiserSoze) contained the majority of this information, but I have added locations and cleaned up the layout for easier reference.

Important Note: You will need a player with research skill of at least 210 (5% chance of success); 262 (50% chance) would be ideal if numbers from Test are accurate.

Parchment is the basis of all spells. The parchment used will determine how powerful the spell you scribe will be. I have not found a way to make it yet, but many of the beings in this underground area carry various pieces of parchment that can be used, after perparation. I will further detail the preparation of the parchment in volume two. Once you have the paper you will need to decide what quill to use. the quill you use is different for each profession that will be using the spell. Sometimes there are spells that more than one profession can use, and it is difficult to decide which to use. Voume three will explain how to choose quills, and how to make the various quills.

Next you will choose what inks to use. Along with the specific inscriptions that you make, the type of ink used for that inscription is important. Some inks work for inscriptions that cause damage, some for inscriptions that affect a person's body and other inks for other particular effects. I will detail this more in volumes four, five and six. After you have chosen the ink you use, you will need to modify it with an additive and a thickener to counterbalance the thinning of the ink from the addititve. The addititive you use determines how the spell will be resisted by the target, while the thickener determines the general type of spell that you are scribing. The details for this will be described in volume seven. Finallly, from time to time there are spells whose formula would be the same, but they became available in our world at a different time. When this happens, the newer spell will need to use a special drying powder that is specifc to the expansion it became available.

Parchments are level restricted: If attempting to use an incorrect parchment type, there is at least a strong chance that the parchment will burn up when you complete the process. You will get a warning about the parchment heating up before this happens, at which point you can stop the process before it's too late. You do not have the option to try putting a low level spell on a high level parchment; the ink wont even leave your quill.

Five Parchment types can be looted from DoD zones: Fine, Velium, Fine Velium and Runic. They may also be sold/bought in the bazaar.

Clean the parchment with celestial cleanser, then immediately treat with appropriate treament solution.

                    Level 61 parchment type

Use parchment is the drop item, believe it makes Parchment if you follow the name of the rest, but sulfurs are too rare to combine a lower spel to check for you.....
