    I've become obsessed with tradeskills

So my 24 chanter has begun research...I've gotten him to 134 using vendor diving as my prime method of getting components. (worked past salil's and I think most LoY swatch combines). The only way I can see of increasing my skills to get to where I can make level 50+ spells with some confidence is either through Nilitim pages or putting some points in. As I'm only 24, and I really have only been using the chanter for TS, I don't have a large pile of points to use.

Is there any other way to skill up? I thought I read some about practice runes but that it was expensive for the gems.

Sadly, your training points can no longer be used to improve research skill.

I have a 31 enchanter with research around 170-ish. At the stage you're at, I was indeed vendor diving like crazy for Nilitim's pages. I must have reconstructed that whole book several times over... I don't recall what the practice runes are at that level, except that they were too annoying to gather the parts for. There may still be one or two tiers of LoY swatches you can make before you require only stupidly rare ones. Really, I think Nilitim's pages are your best bet.

Find a spell or two whose components seem common on vendors and have high trivial levels, and combine your little fingers to the bone. Combine other spells as you get components, but concentrate on 1 or 2 that meet the above-mentioned criteria for the most part.

I had lots of runes in the bank, and my skill is 203 so this weekend I felt like skilling up Research. I looked for spells that had a 222 or 227 trivial and used common runes, and found that I had enough runes for about 20 combines each of 3 spells : Firetree's Familiar Enchancement, {lore, so it was a PITA}; Disintegrate; and Ice Spear of the Solist. I got 7 skillups in ~60 combines and am now at 210 skill

I added the runes I need for these spells to my vendor mining list, and when I accumulate enough I will do another run.

The added bonus was several bank slots were freed up...but they were so lonely I just had to fill 'em up again

I actually printed out a list of all enchanter and priest class spell components so that when I was vendor mining I could keep an eye out for those pieces...

I've noticed that words and runes are much more common than chanter pieces which is annoying. Chanter components are horribly expensive in the bazaar...

I never have understood why people have insisted on keeping those so expensive in the bazaar.

I haven't really noticed this myself - I just don't pay attention to anything over 5-10 plat. However, I have two possible ideas.

First, enchanter components are easier to keep track of. I can remember "yaeth's 25 and 26" easier than I can keep the various runes and words straight. I mean, are Words of Detachment worth more or less than Dissolution or Derivation, or... They all start to sound similar and they lack the structure given to enchanter component naming.

Second, check whether the prices you see are from the same vendor. If the same person keeps listing Tasarin's 23L for 2k plat, it will stay up for a very long time...

Third, everyone knows enchanters are rich. I mean, they blow basketloads of plat making diamond necklaces, and everyone gives them boatloads of money every day for KEI. They can afford it!

I wish. I'm only level 52 so I don't have the plat rolling in from KEI, C1 and C2 gets me donations about 5% of the time and usually for about 5pp. I've actually never tried to sell a diamond necklace on a trader (Now that "everyday" items have many multiple stats I wouldn't think resist only jewelry would sell anymore). And I'm NOT gonna try to cut an aug til I hit 60 and can have the JCM and Salvage AA's. So we aren't all rich
