  • Spell Research no longer level capped!

As per MAddoc's post in the General Forum

    • General - All tradeskills are now able to progress to 300.
    • General - You are no longer able to train any tradeskill beyond the basic steps at any guildmaster. Ok, so this isn't so much a goody, but... It lets me treat these skills as actual skills from here on out, even letting you guys make some decent stat items.

So, you still need to be level 16 to learn the skill, but now even if you stay at level 16 you can skill up more than just 5 point per level.

You can no longer skill up past 21 using Training Points at your Guildmaster, but we may now get a Research Trophy (and other "decent stat items" perhaps?)

The new maximum for all tradeskills is 300, but the highest trivial recipes for Spell Research are 227 at the moment. We'll just /poke Maddoc a bit for some new recipes, eh?

    FAQ has been updated.

    My question is...

Is Research uncapped and can go above 200 now? Or is it still capped at 200? And will Research and Alchemy count against your 200+ tradeskills barring AAs?

    I ask that because I got 250 Brewing, 200 Research, 200 Baking, 200 Fletching, 200 Pottery, 120-something JC, 101 Blacksmithing, and 101 Tailoring.

      Yes, re-read my post.

"And will Research and Alchemy count against your 200+ tradeskills barring AAs?"

No indication that this is the case.

Ah well wish I'd leveled up my wizard and finished training research, he's at 180 skill now, wish he was at 200 instead.

          Guildmasters are bugged though

Have submitted this a few times ...

You cant get even 1 point in research at guildmasters now...

Wish they had let us know this change was coming - camped my main chanter researcher out after dinging lvl 56 just before DoN went live - without purchasing the last skill ups to get to 200 .. (even though it does go higher now)

          BAH!
and double BAH to the new tradeskill cap of 300 ...
and treble BAH!!!!!!!! to the new bazaar and barter zones...

I trained myself to 200 Research a while back. Glad I did.

There are recipes that trivial from 202 to 227, and I am POSITIVE that among these many recipes, there are some where the components are among the most common to drop.

I'll give you a wizard example:

Plainsight, trivial 202 : a quill, parchment, rune of conjunction, rune of ellipse

those are pretty common drops and often found on vendors or in bazaar really cheap.

Find an example for your class' spell (or for a Priest spell) that has common components, and start combining!

I think they said this is a bug, and that you are supposed to be able to use the points. I'll look it up.

Nevermind it is only trainable to 20. Ashlanne mistakenly thought it was a bug but was corrected later. It indeed is a nerf to go along with the removal of the cap.

This seems to me to be another case of the right hand doing something without really discussing it first with the left hand....

Ok, they have increased the skill level of Research to 300. But the highest level spells that can be researched trivial at 227. I GUESS that means that somewhere down the line they will be adding the ability to research ALL the spells at some point. Well thats cool and all, BUT my experience tells me that the components for these will be rare as hell (just had a deja vu moment -Zephyr!) and if not impossible to get in quantity they will be as expensive as hell, and last but not least... by the time it does go live ~ everyone will pretty much HAVE their spells and you will be asking why implement this now?

I wish the developers would actually TALK to players sometimes and actually listen. To of implemented this properly, I would of at the very least, put in a reasonable skill up progression method and items that could be combined to make the new spells, and if not at the very least an announcement that they would be providing the ability to research higher level spells in the near future.

As it stands, one can only assume that the coders made changes allowing to increase the skill level to 300, and the expansion came out before they 'got round' to all the skills.

Everyone please stop the SOE -bashing.

Yes, it would have been nice if recipes with trivials all the way to 300 had been added, but given the size of the cultural armors revamp, I can see where they didn't get the chance to add some new recipes in YET. I am confident that we will get some though.

In the meantime, since caps were being increased to 300 for all the tradeskills, it certainly wouldn't have made sense to NOT increase the cap for Spell Research, to at least allow us to get as high (in skill, lol) as we currently can (227).

The change to disallow purchasing of skill at the Guildmasters was long overdue, everytime we requested a trophy people would say since "you can buy your skill all the way up to 200, you shouldn't get a trophy." Well, that's not true now. And there are other things that we might be able to get to make now, like expendable clicky-effect scrolls or wands perhaps?

Well, just wait and see. The Tradeskill Devs have been good to the tradeskillers, and despite a few bugs now and then, overall they do a great job!

                          spell research no longer capped

                          1) warning about the changes : none(as usual)
                          2) possible trophy : with a possible 5% bonus that will be useful as top skillneed is 227 ... everyone was waiting for that especially the int casters with less than 100 skill
                          3) disallow purchasing research points : see 1)... that was a great move to avoid players from getting a few more skill-ups fast b4 they nerfed it.
The statement that tradeskill devs have been doing a great job.... let me put it as it is... the players that got a skill up to 250 have done a great job in spite of every combine having a hard to find component in it (over 200).
Lets see ... from 200 to 250... 50 skill-ups x 20 tries per skill-up(if you are lucky) 1000 hard to find items ... yes they have done a nice job.

I'm sorry but I don't see where SoE has been "bashed" and where moderators have to feel and react in a defensive way. It might of not been "polically correct" from some people's perspective to critisize how things came out in the new expansion, but how are things ever to be put right or made better if no one ever points the "rough spots" out? Squashing dissent may "keep the pease" but it also kills discussion and stiffles improvements.

dissent is fine, derogatory comments are not, that's all. However I may have been thinking of another thread....posting volumes have been hard to keep up with lately!
