Skill difference between container and skills list!

I had accidentally dinged 52, and decided that I'd put the 5 training points into research to boost my spell-making enterprises. I got sacced back down to 51, and my skills list still listed 185 (as expected... xp is fleeting, but skill ups are forever, baby!).

So today, I go to make a spell, and the new interface indicated that my skill was only 180, while at the same time my skill list said 185. The spell trivials at 182, and I did NOT receive the trivial message.

I bugged it, but I wanted to ask if anyone else had had the same issue happen to them...

I am almost positive that what happens is that you retain the higher skill level but you can't use it. In other words, even though it lists the higher skill level, and you do have that skill level forever, you will not be able to take advantage of the higher skill until you make the level back.

This same thing happened to me at one time. It's been awhile but I believe that was the explanation I received.

Same holds for starting research, when you put in the first point your skill wil be 16 (if you do it at lvl 16) but the container actualy shows a score of 5
