    Hrm

Finally had some time to try out Matchstix's alterations... but it's not compiling right. Keeps saying that it can't find this project or library, and goes down the list of the first commands. The first two lines are fine, the errors come up for the lines afterwards (didn't try to see how far though).

    Private Sub CommandButton1_Click()
    Dim mywin As FileDialog
    Dim fso As FileSystemObject
    Dim myfile As File
    Dim mysteam As TextStream
    Dim tempstring As String
    Dim maglo_ids As Collection
    Dim quanties As Collection
    Dim match As Range
    Dim i As Integer
    Dim j As Integer
    Dim charname As String

Using Microsoft Office 2003. Fraid I don't know this code to debug it. Any suggestions?

P.S. Don't know much about Open Office, Grimsoul =*( Hope someone is able to step up and help. I've been told Access can create executables that run independantly, but I'm afraid I don't know how to myself =/

Sounds like some of the references might either not be loaded on your computer or are just not selecting as it should be for some reason.

      Open the spreadsheet.
Hit tools->macro->Visual basic editor (or hit alt+f11)
      hit tools->references

The one that sounds like it could be the culprit is
"Microsoft Scripting Runtime" if this isn't checked then check it, if you can't find it in the list then click browse and navigate to c:\windows\system32\scrrun.dll and if you can find that then that's the problem. It's used when opening the text file.

        *boggle*

It's funny, I posted the spreadsheet about nine months ago and I still get messages, emails and replies on this board about it. I thought that there were better tools out there, but maybe the simplicity of this one is what keeps this one alive.

I spent about a week contemplating how to implement my initial idea... had no idea how I was going to do it at first, cept that I knew it could be done if I thought hard enough. I think I even dreamt about the darn thing. Well, nine months later and it would probably take me a few moments of looking at the formulas to know what in the world I did.

The whole purpose of this post is to thank those of you who use the spreadsheet as well as those who take it one step further and improve it. Thank you for checking with me first, but I'd just like to give any future interest the go ahead to post it on this thread (and hopefully the mod's won't glare at us for using too much space!) Maybe one day I'll even collaborate all the changes into one super-charged spreadsheet!

          Addidion to Xorithra L`Amante's spreadsheet

Thanks again Xorithra for this awesome tool, I saw your post about some conditional formatting and like the idea so much I implemented it on your sheet. Since the Read Me page is password protected I could not add my revision notes so they are as follows.

Added conditional formatting so that if you have a component in stock then it will be HiLited green on the spells worksheet.
Since I often don't keep common items in stock I also made it HiLite a component light green if you have .1 in stock. This makes it easy to scan which spells you can make and what you need to buy to complete them

On the Makeable page if the quantity you can make is .1 then you only need to obtain items you marked as common to make the spell.

            Open Office version...

For the people interested in using Open Office, I fixed Yarb version to work with it and attached the result to this post.

The fix simply involved replacing ';;' by ';1;' a few hundred times...

I have customized Xorithra L’Amante’s Research Spreadsheet over the last couple years. I haven't kept up with changes being made as I was busy tinkering with my own copy. I thought it might be worthwhile sharing the changes that I've made:

                * Added columns to track bazaar prices of spells and components as well as total cost of components to make a spell, I cannot figure out how to update this information programatically so it must be updated manually
                * Added columns to build shopping list of components based on which spells you wish to make
                * Added inventory sheets for importing Magelo XML files and /outputfiles from EQ - I have been using /outputfile exclusively so Magelo may or may not work
                * Added capability to update makeable spell list as spells are selected to be made
                * Determine and highlight component shortages in purple
                * Added support for low level research spells

Zipped attachment was too big. Here is URL: Spell Research Spreadsheet

                  Amazingly Wonderful

Just wanted to chime in here...I've been using this spreadsheet for about a year now. I keep a custom version of it where I take out the recipes and components that are trivial to all four of my researchers just by minimizing the lines they're on.

Xorithra commented that the format was easily adaptable, and she's right. I took her format and converted it into a spreadsheet for Plane of Sky quests =D
