Erudin Casters Newbie Armor Quest

This quest seems to have a lot of problems, although some of them may be local to Stromm. I know they managed to not generate the quest NPC on Stromm to start out with, although he existed on other servers.

Now the quest giver is there, but there still seem to be some serious problems.

For example, the item needed in large quantities is woven spider silk (anywhere from 1 to 4 or 5 silks per armor piece). I didn't get any in a couple of hours tonight and people in the zone said they had been there all day and not gotten any. Apparently, the only thing that drops there is the woven WIDOW silk, which is used for the Paneel quests. So it looks like all the erudites will have to invade EC or GFay for their silks.

Other items had not yet been found by anyone who was in the zone tonight: a skunk tail and a kobald skull are the ones I can remember.

So heads up if you are going to do one of these quests. You may be traveling a lot and it may be broken.

I'm playing a 31 mage and am on Stromm as well. As for the Woven Spider Silk I haven't gotten any in Tox Forest yesterday night. I went over to GFay and bought some there from vendors. The Skunk Tail I bought from a vendor in PoK if I remember correctly. Someone sold it there. As for the Kobold Skull, it is No Drop and, to my knowledge, can drop from pretty much any Kobold in the Warrens. I got mine there after killing every Kobold in sight for half an hour or so. Not exactly a frequent drop, but it's there.

The only thing I'm missing and haven't been able to find yet is a Giant Rat Tooth that is needed for the robe. I have no clue if it can drop from Giant Rats. I killed quite a few of them in Qeynos Hills yesterday but never seen one drop. Any info on that would be appreciated.

In this sewing kit you will combine a number of recipes that will be used for creating your Craft Keepers armor. When you are ready to craft a certain armor piece all you must do is tell me which piece you [want] to craft. I will then present you with the component recipe along with the applicable pattern for Craft Keeper [Caps], [Bracers], [Sleeves], [Sandals], [Trousers], [Gloves] and [Robes]. When you have completed the material for whatever piece you asked for you will combine it in a sewing kit with the appropriate pattern to fashion your armor piece. Its as easy as that, I suggest though that you attempt your robe last as the components are more difficult then any other piece to collect.'

Barodreth Firefingers says 'To create your cap material you will need to combine 2 Woven Spider Silks, 1 Rat Ear, 1 Spiderling Legs and 1 Short Ale in your assembly kit. I have gotten woven spider silk in Tox. Hunting large and giant widows I got 3 woven spider and 5 woven widow silk. So it does drop there, although I might still go elsewhere to get it easier.

Kobold skulls

Are rare drops in the Warrens... I've seen 'em on "Kobold" and "Burly Kobolds", however, I think it drops on just about anything in there.

The paladin quest requires Snake Bile, which apparently doesn't drop in Toxx, either. About 5 minutes of hunting Giant Rattlesnakes in EC netted me one.

The pally quest also requires a Giant Wood Spider Thorax, which I found on a Desert Tarantula in NRo. It doesn't seem to drop in Toxx either.

The other quest item is a Kobold Head, which I assume would be a rare drop in the Warrens. I'll let everyone know tomorrow evening, when I'm gonna get a bunch of my buddies to storm through there and see if we can't find one.

I was working on this quest last night with my lvl 6 Erudite wizard and I found the skunk tail on skunks in Butcherblock and found the giant spider thorax and giant spider femur on the giant spiders in Butcherblock.

Has anyone yet found a giant rat tail for this quest and if so, where? I don't mind patiently (or impatiently) killing tons of stuff until I get a drop, but I hate the feeling that what I need may not drop off the mob I am killing or in the zone where I'm fighting.

Where do we find the Giant Rat Tooth

Been searching for the thing for a week now, in Kaladim north, camping the spawn of Giant Rats in the tunnels, with lvl36 magician, been roomaging around in East Commons, as well as in Qeynos hills, and it seems like a ridiculously rare drop, if u ask me!!!

Anyone know of another possible mob for dropping the Giant Rat Tooth, kindly post that info here so that others can make the robe, and get the [task] done as well.

I've been beating my head against the wall for several days now in regard to this quest. I'll share what little I have found out. Some of this is personal experience, some things people posted on other boards.

- You can get skunk tails off large skunks in Butcherblock.

- Woven spider silks are much easier to get in EC or GFay than in Toxx, which has a small spider population, half of which has woven widow silks rather than woven spider silks.

- You really do need spider venom, not a spider venom sac. You can make spider venom via a poison making recipe (trivial 20). I got two successes out of five tries.

- Giant wood spider bones (femur & ? - i forgot) drop off giant wood spiders in Misty as well as spiders in several other zones (EF and GFay, for example)

- Kobold skull are reportedly a rare drop off random kobolds in The Warrens. On person opined they drop most often from Shamans.

- Petrified ribcage. I assumed these dropped from the skellies in Toxx, who drop all sorts of petrified bones, but I haven't found mine yet. Has anyone else?

- And finally, the dratted Giant Rat's Tooth. I have read posts from two folks who said they got them from the packrats in the Paneel newbie yard. I've killed at least a couple of hundred of those by the way and no teeth, but since I haven't heard of them dropping anywhere else, I'll keep trying for a while. I have tried giant rats and any other rat I could find in Qeynos Hills, Qeynos Catacombs, Misty and Steamfont. Have yet to see one in Toxx or nearby.

I would love to hear how anyone else is doing with this and especially any confirmed successes.

You know, the Barbarian and Ogre newbie quests just added are a piece of cake. I think we're being discriminated against because we Erudites are so smart. Grin.

I spent the entire evening last night in the Warrens with my lvl 8 wizard and a lvl 8 pally trying to get that skull. I have yet to come across one but we were getting some very nice XPs for our efforts. One word of caution. Make sure you keep track of the zone line at all times as these guys like to mob you frequently. There were several occasions where we started out fighting 1 kobold and suddenly 4 or 5 more would decide to come on over and join in the fun.

Can confirm, Kobold SKULL drops in the Warrens. My Cleric has completed the armor piece needing this item. My Enchie on the other hand has not managed a skull yet. only thing is, my Cleric got her skull BEFORE the small emergency patch where they put the Erud Caster quest NPC into the game as well as other "fixes".

I think I got 1 woven spider silk in Tox before saying screw it and went to Kelethin/Felwithe and farmed the vendors there for the rest.

Kobold Head I have yet to see and truly believe it was missed.

Giant Rat Tooth, yet another I feel may have been missed ALTHOUGH there are river rats in the Warrens I have yet to try AS WELL as "a trained rat" that I saw a DE kill near the left side archway from zone in. The body was left but I spaced checking it once it opened.

THIS IS WONDERFUL! I am so pleased to know this and will have to go check the recipe as soon as I post this!

Thank you for this one as well! Another I had felt they missed entirely but glad to know that is untrue and it is at LEAST dropping somewhere.


It bothers me that they are insisting on drops that are not, never have been, and probably will never be available on the continent of Odus. How many other newbie quests require you to hunt for items on other continents because they do not drop off of your own? It's absurd!
