  • Siren's Grotto Questions

Tomorrow I'm planning on heading to SG with a group of guildmates to gather items for the Coldain Ring and the Coldain Shawl. We also intend to go to Western Wastes as well and hunt some of the mobs there for Shawl drops.

Unfortunately, I've never been in the zone before, and I'm not certain yet who will be attending (since its Memorial Day Weekend), so I don't know if I'll have a zone veteran handy or not. Nor do I know if I'll have anyone available to succor across SG.

Does anyone have any advice on

1.) Where to go for the various drops we might need?
2.) Ways to get across the zone without succor?
3.) If we have succor available, is it better to succor across first and hunt starting on that side of the zone, or is it better to hunt first and then succor across?

The sword fish tooth isn't that bad - the fish hang around the WW zoneout area so if you succor there, it's not a problem.

If you can't succor, invis is your friend - except when someone's invis failed, I haven't had the mobs aggro yet if you swim from CS to WW zone and keep moving and don't fool around - the so-called see invis seahorses all conned indifferent to me when invis, so some things may have been changed to make this easier.

I ended up buying my shells in the bazaar though, so I don't know how much fun the sirens in here are - if they're anything like the ones outside, expect to be charmed, mezzed and dispelled.

Get your MR gear as high as possible and make sure you've got an EB effect item and a ton of fishscales for those who dont have one. (Our Iksar monk thought he was good enough to go without EB and then I actually had to fish up some scales for the druid to hit him with an EB when he discovered he wasn't - LOL.)
    Cigarskunk!
No more EQ for me till they fix the crash bug.

Cigar, were you on land at the time you conned the seahorses? Water-bound creatures always con indifferent to you if you are on land, so that they don't leap out and start attacking when you get close. You have to get into the water to get a true con.

It is true that the seahorses aren't the most observant creatures, however. I've always used the following technique, and rarely had problems. The few times I did get agro I suspect lag was involved. The seahorses are tough and their stuns are nasty, but a 50+ who's on the ball should make it back to shore and out of the water.

From the CS zone archway at the water, you are facing the big waterfall with bits of land on the right and left of the base of the falls. Put invis up and swim directly over to the nearest corner of the right bit of land. Take a couple steps towards the falls, just a couple, and swim directly across to the left bit of land. Once there move to the far front corner just above the underwater tunnel that is guarded by two seahorses. Hug the wall and take a teeny tiny step to slip into the water, and immediately turn to your right to swim into the tunnel. As long as you don't dawdle you shouldn't get agroed. (The first time I was 53 and the seahorses were white.)

Swim into the tunnel, hugging the bottom left corner. You'll pass one horse which will not agro if you are glued to the corner and don't stop. The ground is rough, just do your best to stay low. When you reach the point where the tunnel bends up, swim up to air. This is a good point to reinvis if you need to. Swim over the ledge that is the only way down, and you'll land in a pool with some fish that do not see invis. On the left is land, and if you get into the near corner of it as far back as you can sit you will not be agroed even if you lose invis. Be careful, though, as one wanderer comes pretty close if you're not all the way back.

From there, follow the left wall around the big golden fish statue and down the tunnel in the left wall. Take the left branch when it forks and you'll hit the WW zone. The WW/SG zone should be safe on either side unless it has been trained.

If for some reason at any point you get agroed, the seahorses or anything else in the water will not follow you onto land, they forget you immediately. Anything on land will follow you into the water, however, although they sometimes get a little buggy when crossing water and might fall behind if you don't stop to look back. I don't think that anything is as fast as sow, but I'm not certain of that.

Just be careful and take your time and you should make it.

        Thanks for the replies.

With regards to the sea shells, there are always a few of the "Cloud" Runed Sea Shells for sale (Coldain Ring shells, iirc) in the bazaar, but I have yet to see any of the Enduring Breath shells. We need to take the trip anyway, so I might as well do my hunting while the others are doing their's (I'm the only one in the guild working on the ring).

There have been a couple of guildmates that have been there for their Coldain Shawls before this, but I haven't heard from any of them whether or not they'll be attending, so I don't know for sure if we'll have zone vets on hand.

One way or another, it should prove an interesting experience.

Made the trip. There's a post in Primal about my attempt to do the combine for the Tainted Avalanche Ale. Unfortunately, the Siren's Grotto part ended in a disaster when we accidentally pulled Mistress Latazura (level 63 named siren).

          Oops.

ooh shes a wench - real evil lass that one...
From what I've seen, very difficult to pull the sirens in the castle from the lower landing below that walk without getting her to come along.
Add she's an elder mob and there aren't too many who can green con miss agro...

Ya, we wiped to her three times ourselves.
