  • Getting Kael giant faction

OK, my guild has gotten to the point that we're starting to slaughter dragons in ToV so we can turn in thier armor peices to the giants in Kael for valuable prizes.

There's three ways I know to score giant faction -

    1) slaughter dragons
    2) slaughter coldain and thier wolves
    3) do giant quests

Now, obviously #2 is most efficient - I can solo several wolves and dwarves in the time it would take a group to kill one dragon in ToV. Additionally, one doesn't need ally faction in order to turn in the coldain heads for what's supposed to be some very good faction hits.

    HOWEVER

Myself and many in my guild are still doing that wonderful shawl quest, I'd like to atleast get the 8th Coldain ring since I'm a tank and until they give hybrids a self only gate spell, I'm stuck using Thurg gate potions until I can get a tinkered necklace from PoP.

So, are there any lower level, more reasonable to kill mobs that one can do instead of dragons that don't give Coldain hits?

From my research, there's a supply quest which gives giant faction without Coldain hits, but one needs atleast dubious to start it.

So unless dragons are giving more than 1 point per kill with giants, that means my max KOS troll butt (and most of my guild to boot) is looking at 1000 to 2000 dragon kills to even start dealing with the giants without losing Coldain faction.

    Re: Getting Kael giant faction

Go on a killing spree in skyshrine. Dorfs seem to give a better hit with kromRIFF, and a smaller hit to kromZEK. You need kromZEK to turn in the armor. I have no proof that skyshrine mobs are anything higher than one faction per mob, but at least they don't hurt your standing with coldain.

Plus, the loot is a little better in skyshrine.

There are two giant factions in Kael, Kromrif and Kromzek. Three if you count Tormax faction.

Killing dwarves and their wolves, especially in Great Divide or Thurgadin, raises Kromrif.

Killing dragons, especially in Skyshrine or WW or ToV, raises Kromzek. Ally Kromzek is needed for the armor turnins.

Various quests give Kromzek and Tormax factions. It helps to have dubious or better Tormax faction since the armor quest mobs are in a room behind Tormax's throne room and you might want to walk through there. Tormax faction mobs always seem to see invisible.

The giants that give regular quests are on Kromzek faction, not just the ones for armor quests. The regular quests mostly raise Kromzek and Tormax faction, but some also raise Kromrif a bit.

I raised my giant factions without ever hurting my dwarf factions. I hunted in Skyshrine quite a bit and did a bunch of quests. Kromrif are still dubious while Kromzek are max ally, but that's good enough. BTW, Kromrif faction mobs never see invisible but a few of the Kromzek do.

Hail, just a few things I want to know.

        1. Is it possible to have Ally faction with Coldain, Giants and SS (Only the quest faction ones) all at the same time?

        2. Cigar, what is the quest you found that only give good faction hits?

        3. Are there any other quests that give only good faction hits so I can make Ally to all 3, I don't care if it takes forever to do.

        Thanks all.

I know it's possible to be Ally with Coldain and SS... but to throw in Kael too is a good question. You would not be able to kill anything on Coldain or SS faction to increase your Kael faction, so your only recourse would be to do it via quests. I would think that would be either 1) unbelievably time intensive and 2) expensive.

This one gives all three giant factions a hit with no Coldain penalties.

CoV hit on that one, for those who desire to know such things.

I think it's not very possible to be max ally at all times, and be able to keep it that way. like a seesaw. one side up, one side down. maybe it is, it'd be interesting to know.

There is a guy just inside kael, from WL, you turn dwarf heads in to.

You can buy the dwarf heads from other players AND tar goos in the caveren newbie like area in thurg drop them sometimes (hard to move around in there for a troll though. I've never killed the goos in WL enough to know if they drop coldain heads.

You can still use the trick where you hand him the heads, don't hit complete, then either use your hide skill button (if the proper race) or have a friend cast invis on you.

He may con scowl but won't attack, I tried this with my wood elf druid who of course has a hide key and it worked.

I'm not sure if this gives dwarf hits, but if it does they may be small.

"From my research, there's a supply quest which gives giant faction without Coldain hits, but one needs atleast dubious to start it."

Once again, if it requires handing in you can be indiff via someone invising you, or do you mean you need dubious to not be killed?

                  ---------------
Outdoor dragons are LARGE pluses to giants from what I know.

Cruddy entrance mobs in skyshrine are small pluses, kind of like outdoor giants.

I'd assume that up the stairs raid group type mobs in skyshrine that actually can drop good stuff are better pluses.
                  ---------------

My guild did the skyshrine quests. One great thing about this is how easy it was, while STILL killing outdoor dragons and even some upper skyshrine mobs AND cov faction mobs in TOV, as well as western waste dragons AND some bigger named outside TOV. Essentially you might get down to amiable then we'd go kill vindi/Tormax again Boink, allied again.
So skyshrine armor was cake, Giant is more of a challenge I guess.

The whole point is to force you to choose sides.

That's why the faction hits are weighted against each other.

But hey, might be kind of fun to try.

I'm talking to even start the quest - if you're KOS to an NPC - he's not going to give you a quest item to start a quest and to the best of my knowledge, hide/invis trick won't let you get around that part of the quest.

i dont mean to hijack this thread, but it looks like its been answered: do that quest or kill dragons.

anyway, whats the best way to do something similar to this: getting good CoV faction (i want to be able to port into wakening lands without worry) and keep good coldain faction for shawls? i dont care about giant faction?

i have killed many giants and LOTS drakkel wolves, and am still only indifferent to thurg, threatening to giants (where i should be scowling), and scowling to wuoshi (where i want at least dubious).

AFAIK, there is no quest that will raise dragon faction and lower coldain faction. The opposite applies as well (i.e. raising coldain and lowering dragon faction). So the best course of action is still to hunt giants.

Since your faction is moving so slowly, I would hazard a guess that you're hunting exclusively in GD and EW. In order to make your faction really start to move, you MUST either do quests (which will raise Coldain or Dragon, but never both - i.e. you're still going to need to kill giants in order to get the dragons to view you as better than a morning snack) or kill giants inside Kael Drakkel - preferably the tougher ones in the arena and other significant areas of the city. The fairly weak guards at the eastern end of the zone won't move your faction much, but a few hours in the Arena will start to make a noticeable difference in how the dragons view you. And if you're particularly lucky, a guild doing a Vindi raid will let you take a swing to boost your faction. That should go a long way toward helping out.

When you kill Storm Giants you can hold onto their helmets and their toes, and turn those in to one of the drakes in Skyshrine for additional faction. There are also a number of mercenaries that are aligned with the giants. Killing them will boost dragon faction (but not, afaik, dwarf faction), and you can save the amulets they drop and turn those in for additional faction (along with a five charge melee only potion that gives you a 65 point proc for 15 minutes) to a barbarian in Skyshrine.

To speed up raising dwarf faction (but not dragon faction), you might consider doing the coldain ring and shawl quests.

As things currently stand, I'm max ally with CoV and Thurgadin, and max KoS with Kromzek and Kromriff (Yelinak, Dain, and Tormax factions haven't maxed yet, and I'm probably still KoS to Yelinak - not that I'm eager to test that at the moment...). I got that way largely due to several hours spent in Kael Drakkel, and a few hours soloing in Wakening Lands (both the giants at the edge of the city and the troll mercenaries not far from KD - and handing in the amulets of the latter). I killed some giants in GD and EW, but I don't think I killed all that many before I maxed faction (I may very well have killed more afterwards doing other things - such as the Coldain Ring quests and hunting with guildmates).

One other thing to keep in mind. Faction for killing mobs of one of the three groups goes down faster than faction for the opposing groups goes up. The reason for this is that initially it was even faction gains and losses, but people apparently found a way to make themselves non-KoS to all three groups simultaneously (presumeably just barely, though), and VI wanted to fix this. So your giant faction will go scowling before your dragon faction goes threatening.

                            Yes, well said Eum.

Something else I noticed, after a couple last COV TOV kills I was down to apprehensive to COV.

I then managed by myself to get up to max allied again fairly quickly killing mercenarys and turning in their brooches to that new Torm guy in Skyshrine (The assignments quest is MIA, as far as anyone knows.. last I saw all npcs there accept them without returning them and give you no reward or message)

So once you are over the dubious hump, its fairly easy to fix cov again even if you take some hits on it. Doubtless my Yelinek faction is kos, but virtually every cov quest is on Cov faction.

yes, i was killing mostly in great divide and a little in eastern wastes.

ill try going into kael, i dont care if im max KOS to giants before im even dubious to dragons.

                              thanks for the info.
