  • 5th Shawl correction - bile drops

Just an fyi, I got all five drops in less than 6 hours of hunting. I hunted outside the southernmost wurm cave entrance. All five dropped only from young wurms, and not at from any other type inside or outside of the cave.

Hmm.... how is this a correction? Congratulations on getting your 5 rather quickly, but I assure you that at least a couple of the other types drop them as well. Having done the 5th shawl quest 4 times (I destroyed my 5th shawl in frustration twice and failed once), I've had them drop from all but the ancient shardwurms, likely because those are more of a pain to kill and I ignore them mostly.

Things change, though, and this may be one. /shrug

    Anyway, congratulations!

Like Healblade, I got biles from several different types, including from the one and only ancient that I killed. This was relatively recently (within the last 2-3 months); I doubt it's been changed. There are just a lot more young shardwurms in the area you were hunting in (which I where I did most of my hunting as well).

Some of my guildmates also collected the biles from the young wurms, and other people I know are of the same opinion, that's why it appeared to be a correction. <shrug>

I've killed literally hundreds of shardwurms of all types and I've never seen a bile drop from the others. Must be cybergremlins.

They're rare, which lends itself to funny distributions like this. But I picked up 2 off of elders, and 1 off of an ancient, along with 2 from the young wurms. (Until your post, I had actually thought that the non-young wurms had a better chance of dropping them -- I only killed about 10 elder wurms for those 2 biles, and only 1 ancient, but dozens of young wurms.)

As Dilbert would say, "But that has statistical clustering written all over it."

I spent a few days out there hunting wurms, at least a couple hours at a time, before I found all the biles I needed.

Last night I went out there to help a guildmate. We found the four he needed within half an hour! (He already had one.) We killed one during the day so we couldn't see it glowing. It was just a nice surprise. After a few kills I turn around and see a glowing wurm. Then again, two more times, we kill a few and see a glowing wurm.

I don't know if we just got very lucky or if the drop rate has changed since I was hunting them (only a few weeks ago). If so, get out there and collect them while you can.

              bout two weeks ago,

I hunted the static Wurms in the caves for about 90 minutes (inculding the Crystaline Wurms) and did not get a single bile.

Then I moved outside and looked for glowing ones and got my biles in another hour.

Dunno if that is a change or not, but it was my experience.

Now I am done with 6th shawl, and only need a Swordfish Tooth for my 7th.

Any wurm anywhere in GD can drop the biles. They're rare, so the Hand of the RNG can make it seem that some don't drop them. But all wurms in GD can drop biles. (Well, all that aren't named. I can't imagine hunting the named in there for bile, though, and don't know if they do or not.) Young wurms, ancient wurms, elder wurms...wurms outside, wurms in the caves...they all can drop bile.

Locking this to prevent further spread of the rumors. Unless you kill thousands of a given type or region of wurm without getting a bile, please assume that it's the rarity and randomness at work.
