  • shawls - skipping pottery?

My pottery is at a whopping zero. i looked at the fourth shawl, and to get it you hand in tanik's note and your third shawl. If a friend with high pottery (he has 200+) makes the item and finds tanik and all that, can he hand in the note to multiquest me for the fourth? it seems its like this.
Now, this should create problems for later shawls requiring pottery (the 7th is the only other). However, the enchanted velium powder and the unfired rune are both droppable (right?)? the only no drop combine with pottery for the 7th is to make the blank rune (trivial at 17). is this really true? allakhazam does not have any of these listed, so im going off of what another friend told me.
can i really do the whole shawl quest with only 17 points in pottery? if not, at least the 4th?

Short answer: Generally if you're doing a quest where two or more items have to be turned in, it's MQable and standard MQ rules apply. Magelo lists the powder and unfired rune as being droppable so I have no reason to assume otherwise (been a long time).

Long answer: I'm not sure what level your other skills are at, but if you can't spend the 100pp and 4 hours it'll take to get your pottery up to 162, you're gonna be hurting later on. You can get your skill high enough to make the vial for the 4th quest without leaving the thurgadin bank area. From there it's just a matter of getting some pelts/zombie skins and going through vials.

Ah yup .. if you dont have the time or paitence to do something simple like raise your pottery to 150ish, then your going to really by crying when shawl 5 and 6 role around.

I'd want to confirm that the items on 7th that you say are no drop really are, I couldn't find any info on it. But if they're droppable... /shrug sure, skip pottery. But you will have a higher chance of failing the firing of the rune with a low skill, n'est-pas?

The unfired rune for shawl 7 is still droppable.
You still have to fire it yourself though, as the fired rune is no-drop.

As other people stated, if 4 hours of raising pottery is not something you want to do, just quit now. Your going to spend much, much more that that raising tailoring, smithing, ..heck any other skill. Pottery to 162 is insanely easy. You also will not enjoy hunting wurms for bile, which can take many hours. Same with gems for armor, on 8th. Threads in velks , for 6th. Many parts of 7th take time.
