  • MQ 8th shawl idea.

I didn't see this proposed elsewhere.

Just finished my 8th shawl last night. It seems to me that once you've completed the 7th shawl, someone else could make the armor and turn in the issue kit to the general. You complete the walk and when the Avatar spawns, ANY owner of the 7th shawl could hand it in for the 8th shawl.

EQ now has the ability to keep track of who turned in the issue kit, but since this is a Velious era quest, I don't think they would check that.

To get the issue kit, the tradesperson would have to have a 7th shawl (either original or approved), but that would only need to be done once.

Has anyone tried this? Can anyone see a flaw? If it works, one person could do all the combines for the 8th shawl and just MQ it with the owner of the 7th.

/em scratches his chin at the possibilities.

You are correct, and I suspect that it's not terribly uncommon. But way back in the early days I remember a report that the Avatar either ate or refused an original 7th, they must be approved for him to accept. As long as that small detail is handled, it seems to work.

I don't see why this wouldn't work, but I'm not sure why one would bother at that point. Once you've got the 7th shawl (and both people in question would have to have it), you've already passed the worst (most expensive/most farming-intensive) part of the tradeskilling (tailoring and farming for 6th, farming for 7th). It only takes a couple thousand plat to get JC to the levels needed for the 8th shawl, and a similar amount for smithing, so it seems like that would put a pretty hard cap on what people would be willing to pay for such a MQ.

The only reason I can see anyone doing this is if they had a whole bunch of extra unrefined gems from a previous attempt (or from farming for etched armor for sale that you've decided not to use). Am I missing something?

The biggest trade skill differences between the 7th and 8th shawl are jewelcraft and smithing. Jewelcraft is just time consuming. Smithing can be a real pain. If you are someone with a lot of plat, but not a lot of time, you might be inclined to pay someone to MQ the 8th shawl with you.

Thanks for the pointer about the shawl needing to be the approved version for the Avatar of Brell.

It sounds like this is a definate possibility....

          Here's how it -might- work:

You need to hand in the 7th shawl to an NPC to get the issue kit, it's the only way to get it.. the kit is also LORE, so you can't have more than one.

          1) Get kit, put in armor, combine
          2) Get another kit, make second set of armor, put in kit, don't combine yet
          3) Turn in combined kit for approved kit, combine second kit
          4) Get a third kit, make third set of armor, put in kit but don't combine.
          5) Do IC run, turn in shawl, get 8th shawl
          6) Turn in second kit, get more orders, combine third kit
          7) Do IC run, have 2nd person turn in 7th shawl at end
          8) Turn in 3rd kit for more orders
          9) Do IC run a 3rd time and have 3rd person turn in shawl at end.

So, I suppose one could MQ this as many times as they wanted to, really... however if someone has managed to get to the 7th shawl surely getting supplies for the 8th wouldn't be -that- much harder.

The original thought in the post will work...the same concept was used to "ninja" an 8th shawl on Bertoxxulous last week.

Happy to say the GM's set things right though
