  • Solstice Earring - Iron Oxide

Oxides (Iron and Russet) in Steamfont:

Visual cue: these look like red lumps on the ground. (See pictures below)
Locations: On and around the huge gears on the ground near the minotaur caves. (Gotta love lots of metal rusting in the ground for dye components, eh? ) Note that there are now moss-covered drake scales that spawn in the same areas and look the same.
I am trying to find Iron Oxide to no avail. I followed the info above, but the only thing that spawns are Moss-Covered Drake Scales. I waited an EQ day to see if perhaps Iron Oxide spawned at a different time... no luck.

Can anyone give me additional information about where to find Iron Oxide? Thanks.

Check back more often. These things are in high demand among potters. When I was last paying attention to them, quite a few months ago, they sold for 2k+. There's a pretty good chance that someone is camping them, coming back every time they're due to respawn.

You might also want to try mining the gnome vendor in the middle of one of the gears. Newbies sometimes sell him the iron oxides not knowing how valuable they are. Course, the person snapping them up off the ground might be checking the vendor, too.

Easiest of all might be to get on asap after a patch and hope to beat the farmers.

Or just go kill Stonegrabbers in MSeru. Very low level MoB.

Considering the drop rate from stonegrabbers you might be better off cash camping something and just buying them. Would probably save you several hours time.

Try the bazaar. Since the stonegrabber change, you can find the completed glaze for just 50pp on my server, and dozens of dozens of iron oxide for even less.

iron oxide spawn time is 22.5 hours after the previous pick up. So unless you find out when was the last time it got picked up, your chance of finding ground spawn is pretty rare.

Twilight sea elementals have pretty good drop rate on those, I often kill some while waiting for shadows to respawn, and normally I'll get 1 in about 15 minutes ae or so. Good luck and I am so glad I've out of potc package business. Time vs. reward is bad for potc now.

Last few times I went there, the vendor in the cog was gone. I think he's been removed, at least on Fennin. Anyone back me up?

I also discovered that Blazing Elementals in SolA drop Iron Oxide as well.
                  Which was a pleasent surprise.
