Unrefined gems for 8th shawl -- WL geonids only?

    Unrefined gems for 8th shawl -- WL geonids only?

    I'm about to go hunting geonids for my 8th shawl, and Verdandi's guide only mentions the Wakening Lands geonids and the WW wyverns as sources for the unrefined gems.

    Can anyone confirm that the Crystal Caverns geonids do not drop these gems? I'll happily head over to WL if that's what it takes, but figured that if they drop in CC, that would be easier...

    I don't believe the CC Geonids have ever dropped the correct gems.

    You want to go to WL, I always had the best luck going in the 'north' opening to avoid the tar goos...

    Depending on your level you may be able to single pull them and thus avoid fighting too many 'regular' geonids, just the gem droppers. I pulled and killed enough for two 8th shawls and am not KOS yet. They're not too bad -- just pull away from the shaman geonids.

    I haven't hunted the WW wyverns so don't know how tough they are.

    EDIT: Just saw you are 55th... if you can get a 60th plus melee to go with you'll have a much easier time but it's not necessary. You'll want to watch as at 55 I think there were some adds? Not positive now, it's been a while. Just beware in case

      With regard to the geonids, only the shimmering geonids in WL will drop the needed gems. However, they will drop one every time. I find it much easier to hunt there if I am not KOS so every once in a while I will do the beginning of the Phenocryst quest to up my faction with them. Doing the quest also gets you a small Dain faction boost as well. I also don't need to slaughter them wholesale because at 65 I can sit in the middle of them and root/dot the shimmering without getting any adds. I may not be getting my gems as quick as I possibly could but it's not going too slowly either.

        How exactly do you get more shimmering ones to spawn then if you don't kill the regular ones? If nobody kills the PH, there isn't a spot for the shimmering to spawn.

        When I did mine, I just picked an area with a group of spawns that I could clear before repops and kept it clear for a few hours. During this time, the shimmering ones would pop in at any of the cleared spawn points randomly.
