  • Ack! Apprehensive to Geonids...

After just one kill. I saw that i was indifferent, thought to myself, well one kill couldn't hurt that bad....

Now I think I am in trouble on geonid faction.... grrr

So is the "invis-turnin" thing my only option for the pheno focus quest?

Invisi-turn in no longer works, friend. The moment you open the trade window invis drops, be it spell invis or Hide skill.
Only Sneak works for altering factions for turn-ins, so unless you're a Bard, Rogue, or Vah Shir (I forget who all else gets this skill, maybe Ranger?), you're kinda outta luck unless there's a way to raise genoid faction.

If you are planning on doing the Phenocryst quest, you should do it first before you work on 8th shawl. I was KoS long before I got my gems needed. But if you're a cleric, why do you care? It's INT caster only.

P.S. I think halfling has racial "sneak".

        No sneak

I have no sneak as I am a high elf. I guess the faction really doesn't matter that awefully much, Its just nice to be able to run through the whole area scanning for shimmering's. I guess I am just gonna have to grind em out one kill at a time.

I find it interesting that you need so many gems from such a high end mob for this part. I am level 62 and these suckers are light blue with a TON of hps. I can solo em but pretty much one full manabar per kill. Gonna make for some slow camping, unless I can get some guild help....

Has anyone noticed the percentages of gem drops? are they in line with our gem needs (2/3/3) or is it much more skewed?

        Please advise,

Nay, Halflings are like Wood Elfs and get racial 'Hide', which is like an insta-cast invis.. however it's rather useless for both races since it has such a low cap.

Are you sure? As of when? I had heard this also, but decided to give it a try when I saw how fast my Geonid faction was going down. It worked just fine, and this was, mmm, maybe a few months ago, at most. It was well after the last big changes to invis were announced.

There are ways to raise Geonid faction.

The very very very first part of the Phenocryst quest takes place entirely in thurg , involves a simple turn in, and raises genoid faction.

And I beg to differ on halfling racial sneak and hide. Even at 50 hide has served me quite well, I hide until a mob cons indifferent which lets me survive without detection long enough to med to recover some mana or change spells to get out of danger. And sneak at 50 lets me trade at indifferent faction with any vendor who isn't KoS to me like the various poison vendors. Our racial gifts from Bristlebane don't give us warnings when they don't work like the rogue version of the skill, but there are enough ways to tell elsewise if they worked. I may be mistaken but a successful hide or sneak at skill level 50 is the same as a successful hide or sneak at skill level 200.

I know as a wood elf ranger, i get sneak, which caps at 50 and is successful about 50% of the time. I use it a lot when vendor-diving in Shadowhaven. Usually i hit sneak as i approach the vendor as i know its successful when my movement speed drops to a moderate crawl. Fail=no speed change.

I tried doing the first part of the pheno quest to boost faction when I was at the point where I had killed a bunch, but was not quite kos yet. Even with collaboration, my faction was too toasted to do it.

The very first part of the Velium Focus quest (the part that is entirely in Thurg) does not affect Geonid faction. Does give a (very small) positive Dain faction hit (likely one faction point). The first part of the quest that gives a Geonid faction hit is when you turn in the Velium Focus to Phenocryst, and you can't do that at less than indifferent.

However, you can still use the invis-turnin trick, you just need a friend. Open the trade window with Phenocryst, then have someone else cast invis on you. This should make you indifferent.

                        Faction

Well I logged on last night to find a 62 Chanter camping the geo's with a dire charmed geo. We rampaged the zone for a few hours, I healed the pet and melee'd and we got 14 gems. Now I just need one more emerald and I am done!

Now I just need no failures. I haven't failed a single combine yet on this whole quest (well, one hound fur I think), so I guess no final combine and it has me worried. I may be out of Karma!

actually your WRONG about only sneak working for turnins

Basically this is how i do turnins to kos npc's (and be treated as indifferent) without ANY help and as a cleric

Step 1: Pacify Npcs- allows me to get in close enough without getting attacked
Step 2: Put items in trade window with npc
Step 3: hit hide key and con npc after hide to make sure its indifferent (having someoen invis you at this point works also)
                          Step 4: hit trade

                          Bingo. It works

Invis turn in works, you first turn in the item then hit your hide key (can be racial hide) or get invised by someone, THEN you complete the trade.

Its worked like it always has. I just did it the other day. Its never worked for turning in while invis, that always broke invis.
