  • Dain Faction for 8th Shawl?

This is turning out to be the most tedious task out of the entire Shawl quest for me.

I had gotten Shawl 4 before switched to Kael Alignment and had been that way for over a year. Recently I decided to try and finish my shawl. I was able to Get Shawls 5, 6, and 7 through the use of Charms and such even though I was Ready to Attack to Coldain.

It came to the point where I needed to actually up my faction, so I spent countless hours in Great Divide slaughtering things. I had obtained the faction of Dubious when I bought some Small Velium Pieces from the bazaar to do the Pick quest. I was then able to Dire Charm the pick guy from the caves and park him next to the other dwarf in the smith shop. This made it very easy to run the quest.

After maybe 200 runs of this quest my Coldain faction topped out, max ally. Yet I was still Ready to Attack to dain(Even with L51 ENC spell Collaboration faction increase spell). Fast forward roughly 400 more completions of the pick quest, and I am still Ready to Attack to dain even with faction increase spell.

Assuming the pick quest gives 1 point of dain up, and knowing Collaboration ups your faction by 300 points. Im assuming even 300 more completions will not even set me to threateningly since im still Rdy Atk after Collaboration.

With Small Pieces of Velium running at roughly 30pp per, this is seeming like a very unviable method of increasing dain.

I'm aware that King Tormax's hit is substantial but at a 7 day spawn time and the fact i'm currently guildless, this is something that will take a while to do, and i'm trying to up my faction ASAP.

What i'm looking for is anyone who is aware of any other method or quests that yield at least a viable Dain faction increases.

    Thanks.

    re

Your right about doing the small pieces quest. I did it countless times myself. I'm assuming your a higher end player, do you know what guilds on your server are currently doing King T? If you do you can probably ask who is next up on rotation to kill him (if there is a rotation) and get in contact with those people to be present for the faction hit next time they kill him. If I remember correctly King T faction hit is about 3 or 4 faction levels which is faster then if you farm cash to buy pieces to do the pick question a billion times.

There is only a hand full of things in the whole game that give Dain faction. The shawl quest, the ring quests, the pick quest, 4 or 5 giants around KTs room and KT himself.

I was in the exact same situation with the Dain faction. I did the pick quest about 300 times and no faction change. A KT hit is really the only way to go. Its not easy to get sometimes I know, on my server he's never up for more then 20 mins. Even though everyone says hes totaly random, from my experience he seems to pop within 6-8 hours of server up so you might wanna try that. Took 3 KT hits + the 300 pick quests.

      Hope this helps

Shawls 1 & 2 both give Dain hits, so I'd suggest collecting those giant heads and toes and running those quests over and over again.

Also, the Coldain Ring quests are very easy if you get bored of the head/toe things.

It took me 2 King T hits plus collaboration to get to non-KOS to Dain from cant get worse. Other wise I have heard that all other Quests and Mobs give very small hit 1 to 2 points per assuming neg 2000 is cant get worse and neg500 is theateningly. Dub is like neg250. That is alot of sub quests. On TM server is King T is a very highly contested mob with my guild being one of contestants. After server patch camp in or near thorwn room if you are on Giant faction that should be hard at all. Then after server patch hang out in there until he spawns and inform what ever guild is going to kill him that you are ther for the faction hit only, 99 percent of all guild are okay with it exspecially if you are unguilded. If they have a issue with it you may chose to or some other benificail buff on one of there clerics durring the fight and head for zone-in and wait till you see the factionhit(is it underhanded? somewhat but ask yourslef what harm can come of it, and if you dont feel right about faction leaching wait for a more reasonable guild to kill him).

Dubious works. I didn't check before hand but I had killed Korf Brokenhammer five times (wristguard assistance for friends and Dain hit ) and the pick thing 10 times hoping to counterbalance it and was able to deal with the Dain with no problems at dubious.

There are other folks on the Dain faction in his throne room - Chamberlain Khrystoff worked for me, and I think some of the Royal Guard are on the Dain faction instead of Coldain. Just be careful, I am pretty sure some of them could see through invis/camo/sneak.

The easiest way to check dain faction is in The Great divide. On your appraoch to Thurgadin there are two guard huts. The middle guard in the hut on your left if you are facing thurgadin is on Dain faction. Can't remember his name at the moment.

Found this out one day when running through GD in wolfie form and he decided to attack me. Suprised me as I am max ally coldain and just plain ally in wolf form.

For the original poster, you say you have dire charm... When I needed my KT hit, I just lived in Kael for weeks on end. I am a 60 Druid (no DC), and would usually just clear the manor a few times a day with a charmed dire wolf. One day I happened to have gotten there shortly after a patch and as luck would have it, there was a Tormax raid going on. I brought over my pet (didn't ask anyone if it was okay, but I didn't see any harm). Waited out the clearing of the other mobs, helping out where I could. When they did their Tormax pull, they couldn't split the guards and wound up losing a few tanks... I waited until they had him under control (i.e. Guards were dead and they had CH rotation in place) sent my pet in at around 95% on Tormax. Was a long fight (charm broke at about 50 percent) I started chain nuking at about 70 percent and I believe I dealt out between myself and my pet somewhere in the neighborhood of 60-80khps of damage. After he was dead I parked my pet back where I got him and headed to Icewell to check my faction. I went from somewhere in ready to attack to dubious with that one hit. (On a side note I also went from RTA to Apprehensive with Yelinak).

Was fun, and I'd like to do it again, but I don't like living in Kael... the exp SUCKS.

Could one of you link the pick quest, or give me basic information, please?

                          Thanks!

I found the quest... but alas, I've been killing dragons so long it doesn't look like it will do me any good.
