The ashes of dark ritual drop off grimling spiritists in Hollowshade Moor.

I killed maybe 50 spiritists without a drop, after doing a little more searching and finding:

I switched to mystics, and I started getting ashes of dark ritual.

Actually, it's different in precisely the section of text I quoted.

The version at http://www.eqtraders.com/quests/lucl...icwolfbane.htm states that the ashes of dark ritual are dropped by grimling spiritists, while the other two sources indicate that they're dropped by grimling mystics.

The page you refer to appears to be the one that's incorrect, unless they both drop them, and I was even more incredibly unlucky than usual in getting quest drops.

Sorry I wasn't clearer.

The ashes (and the salt crystals for shaman) can drop off any of the caster types, spiritist, mystic and priest.

I had my best luck from mystics and worst from priests but I haven't farmed them enough to prove that as fact.

These dropped from Mystics for me and only when in their home town on the islands ( I found most things dropped when that species was on the islands). I had no problem gathering 5 of them in about an hour clearing one of the islands where 3 mystics spawned.
