  • 6th shawl: how much mana do the sirens have?

I'm still collecting threads for my 5th shawl, but looking ahead to the 6th, I've already got everything but the siren hairs. So I'm trying to plot a strategy for dealing with the sirens. Step 1 is to improve my CoV faction so that I don't have to worry about the wyverns and drakes. Just about done with that, after offing umpteen-hundred giants and getting a few hits off a 10th ring war.

I've heard that they don't have many hit points, so it seems like if I can keep them from casting, I'll be OK to just nuke them down. Toward that end, I was wondering if it was practical to mana sieve them down to practically nothing. Does anyone know about how much mana these lovelies have? Specifically wondering about the enticers, discretion being the better part of valor and all, though if anyone has data on the others, that would be great too.

Hoping to mez, and then cast Mana Sieve until they're empty, then root and nuke. But if they've got 10000 mana to begin with, that won't fly too well. Going to wait at least until I reach level 49 and get new spells before doing this, but I don't suspect that would change much (other than maybe making a longer mez available).

    Any thoughts?

Actually if you can get your magic resist and maybe fire and cold above 100, you should resist most of what they cast on you.
And you definitely need to pull them up top before you kill them, especially with that B thing wandering around.

The only way I'll be able to get even just my MR above 100 without spending big huge wodges of plat is via spells. (As currently equipped, I can get to about 110 with Group Resist Magic and Arch Shielding.) Being somewhat the pessimist, I'm just absolutely sure that one of the sirens will get lucky on a dispel early, and I'll be sitting there with just the MR I've got off my equipment (in the 35-40 range), a sitting duck for an incoming charm. :P

Or am I being too pessimistic? Or do I really need to go out and spend whatever money it takes to get my MR up through equipment?

(I did just realize that I can get 34 more MR moderately cheaply by making myself a velium BD bracelet and an Iron Amulet of Unseen Horrors, and neither will cost me anything significant stat-wise because the items I have there now are pretty pathetic...even with those, I'm still a little worried, just because that's how the RNG is. )

Grab a couple of holy cakes and kaladim consitutionals too, that'll give ya 10 total to all your saves

With that extra 34 you mentioned, where would that land you unbuffed? Mine was at 84 unbuffed (I think) and when resist magic was down I still resisted a fair amount.

I did these ladies just recently and got lucky with the drops. I only had to kill about 3-4 to get the two hairs. Anyways, I was level 52, MR at about 73, I picked on the light blue and green ones only and I did get charmed and tashed, but didn't die or even come close. I'm a druid and just DDed them, they seemed to have around 2-3k hps, so not too bad. I don't know what enchanter damage is like, so if you can dish out that much damage in a couple minutes you may be ok. Having stun and mez and mana drain and such should help. I didn't bother with anything but DD since my root breaks when my DD hits. Also, I have 158 tailoring and made the 6th shawl on the first combine, geerlok equiped!

I think the extra 34 would get me to 69 unbuffed, 143 buffed. The extra 10 for the holy cakes and constitutionals would make it 79/153, at which point I might start feeling comfortable. (I just REALLY don't want to have to do an underwater CR. :P )

(Just thinking out loud...) If I'm willing to give up some HP/mana/int, I can easily get another 14 per finger (velium jacinth rings), which would make it 107/181. That's more like it.

As for enchanter damage -- a bit over 500 every 15 seconds or so with Discordant Mind, so 2-3k within 2 minutes is fairly well within reason, even with a couple resists. I guess I just got so used to stuff with 7k hp (i.e., the frost giant elites I've been charming lately), that I assumed these would be a bit tougher than they apparently are...

Thanks for the help, I plan on heading out to CS soon to try things out...

              sirens

The enticers are the easiest. They have just over 2500hps. I would cast 3 1100hp dd's (62 cleric) and one tarnation (300pt stun). They may have less hps but they may rune themselves. The other sirens were significantly harder.

Two things: 1) Magic Resist to the hilt! If you get charmed, they will run you into a group of more of em and once you get a few on you, you are toast. 2) Load your stuns. I found that stunning them in between DD's helped a ton.

Took me about 25 kills to get my 2 hairs, thank god I only needed one combine to finish the shawl.
