  • Shawl Q: Is the smithing harder then the tailoring?

Working on the shawl quests atm. Wondering how the skillups for the other tradeskills is in comparison to the tailoring? My current skills are approx:

Tailoring: 148 (will get to 158 plus geer before I finish 5&6)
    Pottery: 150+/-
    Baking: 165+/-
    Smithing: 70
Jewelcraft: 0 (heard this is just cash, like 2.5k to get to 168 or so)
Fletching: 0 (nother easy cash thing. Heard I can do in an hour or two in front of a vendor)

So is smithing 70-170 as hard as tailoring 70-170? Or harder.

Let me know, cause honestly, the farming for parts is cake in comparison to the mind-numbing clicky, clickidy-click of making those dumb Heady Kiola's. If smithing is harder then tailoring, I may just want to get comfortable with the 7th! *grin*

Smithing to 188 is roughly equivelant to Tailoring to 158.
Progressing past either is a beast.

But to get to those levels:

Smithing simply requires a more then a few k, and TONS of leather pading.

Tailoring requires TONS of silk, and an enchanter. And you must be willing to brew Kiolas until your ears fall off.

I just did my dain hand in & only have the general walk to do now - I started this quest with 0 trade skills & I can honestly say that I wish I hadnt done it!

I wouldnt make a single heady kiola, I know I didnt! buy it in the bazaar - buy EVERYTHING in the bazaar. Otherwise you will go out of your mind. Look for people selling leather padding over the course of a few days & buy about 160 of them when you see quantities available for a reasonable price.

I got my tailoring to 150 (never failed a shawl combine, failed 3 or 4 velium fur + thread combines) & smithing to 150 (failed 4 armor combines /whine). I will never click another trade skill combine - EVER!

        Lol

You poor guy. Sounds like you are the wrong personality type for tradeskills. All the more credit you are deserving for getting to the 8th shawl.

I finished 6th this morning so should be done with tailoring. I guess I am a luck guy cause I did 6th shawl on first attempt and even forgot my geerlock.

        On to 7...

          Attitude for tradeskillers?

I wouldn't say it's a question of right ..attitude, as much as it is how strongly masochistic you are, and how intense your mania is. Tradeskillers love to vent off in Primal Scream, or exult when something does go right on other boards, but there a certain mindset, if you want to call it that, that most show

Dedication, obsession, the line between these too is slender at best, and blurs entirely to the weary eyes of a true tradeskiller, trying for that one more combine or skillup. Just the amount of time, let alone cash, that a tradeskiller devotes to improve his skills is often staggering.

Guess that means we're all nuts
