Need help with Garzicor/Naginata quest!

I am doing the huge pain in the ass Garzicor quest to try and get the Pitted Iron ring. I am almost done with the quest. But after coming this far I do not think this quest was worth it unless they add a focus effect to the ring or something. Anyway, here is my problem:

I am done with everything except for the blade combines. I have failed the blade combines at LEAST 6 times!!! Each time i fail i have to go back and kill cliff golems, the ghost in CC, and go to DN and risk dying to traps. The first 5 or 6 times i tried the combines I was at 184 smithing + geerlok. Most of the time I was avatar'd, C3'd, etc. The last time I tried which was just tonight, I was at 188 smithing + geerlok and those same buffs. Tonight I failed on the 8th blade skin combine. Farthest I've ever got is the blade core + skin combine which I failed on. Is my smithing not high enough or what? Or am I just getting unlucky? This quest is so frustrating...need help...

Trade skills: 175 smithing, 128 pottery minimum. It’s hard to judge exactly, but we’ve been told that there is an absolute chance of a 5% failure on ANY combines in this quest. I think 175 skill will get you there. I think it’s far easier to redo this quest if you fail than to try to raise smithing any higher in any case.

With all of those smithing combines, the 5% fail can start to add up even with sufficient skill. (.95^10 = .60) So even with the right skill level, you only have a 60% chance of making it all the way through.

Are you sure it's just 10 combines? I think it is 17+ combines. You have the 10 blade skin folds, the 5 blade core folds, the final blade + core combine, and then the combines to make the starmetal ore and starmetal blocks.

I ended up doing this quest twice because my items got eaten during a bad turn in. First time, I crafted the weapon successfully at 175 skill...no skill mod items at the time. I think all combines were trivial except 1 or 2. Second time, I crafted the weapon at 200 skill...still no skill mods, with zero fails. You're just getting some bad mojo working.

Keep at it, garzicor was one of the most unique and fun quests ever implemented.

I'm actually not sure on the exact number of combines, just skimming the page I saw a 10, so I went with it. Even so... 95%^17 = 42%, even with everything trivial.

Gokou, how long ago did you do the quest? Did you do the smithing combines before or after they changed all the smithing trivials for everything? Just curious :/

Bad mojo, hehe that's an understatement. This game hates me! Although I have heard of people having to try the blade combines up to 9 times...so I guess I'm just the unlucky one.

Ok i tried it again and I finally got the complete raw blade. Now my question is, when i combine that with the clay/water mixture, it doesnt combine. On this site it says i should combine a small block of clay with a flask of water and get clay, but i get clay/water mixture that wont combine with blade? What's really needed?

Nevermind i forgot to do a step before this. I now have the complete naginata blade! I cant believe it! Now i just have to do final fight and final combine
