  • SoW potions enough to outrun death squad (4th shawl)?

As soon as I can get two more snow griffin eggs (@%!$%$ things are being stingy...), I'm planning on trying the 4th shawl. Before walking into anything potentially suicidal, I thought to wonder whether speed from my SoW potions was enough to be able to outrun the death squads that I'll inevitably spawn 14 of before I manage to get Tanik.

Also, is it safer to run all the way to the Great Divide zone, or am I better off heading for the Kael zone and taking my chances on there being a very KoS giant waiting for me on the other side of the zone border? (I've never been in or even near Kael, and am very much not on giant faction.)

Yes, anything that gives you sow speed or greater will let you outrun them.
I just always zoned into Kael, after yelling "Death squad to Kael!". Figured that was better overall since the GD zone line is usually a bit more populated. Unless somebody just trained inside Kael, you should be fine.

If you run far enough, you can even get out of their aggro range, where they just decide to stand there and depop. I've done that before...but I had a horse to help out with. :P But since I had to run far enough to get on the horse before they come clobber me, SoW's enough to ditch them. Will just take longer.

When I did this I ran straight east. With only SoW on, I would outrun them and the giants never made it to the bridge. Usually lost the giants about 2/3 the way across EW.

The only time I died was when I saw my sow leaving so I stopped to recast and wouldn't you know it, I stopped right on a trap trigger.

Turns out I didn't need to worry about the speed of the death squads; Tanik showed his face the very first time, with an assist from a charmed walrus. Now holding shawl #4 and contemplating my assault on the shardwurms.

Thanks anyway to everyone for the advice...

Jboots will beat them as well (did for me). I believe they are the same speed as RS2 or RS3, which is only slightly slower than Jboots.

SOW will beat them easily. If you are of a pet casting/charming class, then leaving the pet to die there will buy you a good bit of time while scampering away out of agro range. Once out of agro, they de-pop fairly quickly.
