6th shawl...chance or skill it?

I was wondering. would it be easier to 'attempt' the 6th shawl at skill 158-160ish and if fail, just recamp the items and keep trying, OR skill tailoring to the dreadful 200+ mark till it is trivial?
how much money , average, would it take from 160 - 200? having the 144 mark totaly break me, i have some time to think about it while i hunt for some loots.

Chance it, UNLESS, you want to try the only thing to get above 158 without spending 30pp per combine. Make Velium Hound Fur Padding, you need it for the 8th Shawl and it trivs at 176 and can give you more skill ups. The only other item that is not 30pp per combine is Nightmare silks for Nightmare bows. But they triv at 162 I think, and they sell in the Bazaar for 5-500pp each, so it's chance or farm your own stuff. But MANY, MANY people just say try it at 158 and save yourself the time. The only other thing I can say is get your skill to 210, one way or another and combine. Then report if triv to you or not and help us norrow it down more . But whatever you do, GOOD LUCK!

somtimes i wonder if the trival for the shawls are as high as they say they are... i just finished my 7th shawl w/ a tailoring skill of 119 + geerlok (2nd attempt) and btw the 7th shawl gave me a skill up to 120.... and yes i completed that dirty 202-220 trival with a skill of sewing (115), first attempt.

so you should be ok just to try it; it was easier for me to farm the pieces over and over again, then it would be to raise my skill.

I skilled up to 158, did 8 combine on the 8th shawl's leather paddings and that got me to 161. I was successfull on the 6th shawl with that 161 skill at the 1st try. (Yes I made the sub-combines for the 8th shawl before I made the 6th)

Glad i followed people's advice.
after obtaining a geerlock, i hit pok, did 10 combines on Wu's shirts with 7 consectutuive skillups, was feeling like the RNG was on my side, i quickly slaped the thread, pattern and shawl into my kit, and voila! onto the 7th now!

Well, after about 2 hours in CS I managed to snag 3 hairs before a siren charmed my pet and beat me to the zone line I made my first attempt and failed the second combine

I figure I'll grab an uber MR buff, DMF, and get a port to CS and stay till the MR buff wears off and repeat untill I have 3 more threads then go for broke and make two more attempts since I've got the manes and whiskers for it.

Took me two tries with tailoring 163, but I expected failure on the first try since several other people I knew had the same luck. I did get a tailoring skill-up on the second try so that was a very nice surprise!

The sirens camp is just so unpredictable...

On at least one set of four spawns it was all greenie enticers so they all went down nice and quick without a spell landing and most being interupted.
the truely deadly ones are the blue con enchantresses that are apt to tash and charm...
My death came from one of these with another one spawning that had a thing for casting dispells... so before I knew it all my buffs where gone, tash was landed on me rocketing my MR down to about 50 followed up by charming my pet and beating me into the silty ground.

I just hope I can break the spawn again next time... might have to deliberately draw it way out so each one spawns 3 or so minutes after the one before it.

I successfully combined the 6th shawl last night on the first attempt. WOOT!

Admittedly I was nervous but my skill is 162 and I had my geerlok.
Now to work on Jewelry for shawl #7 and #8. :roll:

I had my fifth shawl for quite a while put it aside to work on leveling, hence I did not pick it up again until I reached 65. I had attempted the 6th shawl once when I was around level 50 or so at a tailoring skill of 135 (no geerloks back then ) I failed on that attempt. After I hit 65 I went around and collected the ingredients needed again. It was pathetically easy to do at that level. When I would do the siren's in CS I would just swim to the middle of them, root and dot them all and just sit and med while they tried to cast on me. The only spells that ever landed were tash and the occasional nuke for, oh I don't know, 30 hit points or so Anyway, I made my second attempt at 161 in tailoring with geerlok. I failed but got a skill up I was also hunting for the velium hound fur at this point and made 6 successful combines on that and got another skill up. I also was given almost a full stack of rockhopper hides during this which netted me two more skill ups. Now with a skill of 165 and geerlok I made my third attempt which succeeded!

I then moved on to skilling up the other trade skills I needed for the 7th shawl. I needed full fletching and jewelry making skill but had some skill in brewing and pottery. Long story short there, I did my final combine on the 7th this morning (still at 165 tailoring and geerlok) and it succeeded on the first attempt!

Now, off to get a few more velium hound furs, a bunch of gems from the geonids and work my smithing up from 116.

So yes its difficulty is REALLY high
