8th Shawl - I screwed up - any ideas?

Well I fubared.

I collected all my gems and armor pieces and turned in my shawl as soon as I was done smithing.

unfortunately I Failed my jewelcraft combine on my bracer gems.. BOTH OF THEM!!!
( I HATE TRIVIAL FAILURES, especially on quest items!!)

I was overconfident.

Now the dain is sitting there while I have to run off to WL and camp shimerings till I get 2 more sapphires!!


NOW what do I do?

Assuming some raid guild is gonna come gank the Dain while I am sleeping, working, or camping Geos (again).....

When does he respawn? IE whats his spawn time after dying, adn after server-up?

Doh! Hmmm if I recall correctly the Dain is a 7 day respawn after having been killed. Not sure about after server outages.

You might want to try advertising to see if anyone else will be doing the 8th shawl spawning of him any time soon. You can do your armor turn-in at the same time.

Unfortunately that is why they say wait until you have the kit completely ready to go.
The good news is, either (A) grab him after a server reset, or (B) find another person doing quest who is going to spawn him.

When I did mine, he was already up ! Just hanging out there, so apparntly he isn't such a big target now that people are busy elsewhere.

Anyone know if he is automatically UP after server reset, or is he on a "delay timer" ?

I've waited this long, I can wait till server reset.... most uberguilds will be racing for POP content on serverup.

what about re-doing shawls 1-7?

as much as I hate the thought, I have the skills already.. and being a 59 Druid, I can get around pretty easy.

I"m thinking re-doing the shawls is preferable to trying to beat some uberguild to the punch on a 7 day spawn.

My only worry is that the "unapproved" shawl is not a different LORE item from the "approved" shawl .. I"m worried that it is some sort of 'character flag' that shows I have turned it in already.

I'll be casting ID item tonite to see if it really is different somehow.

There is a difference in the 2 shawls. After you turn it in, it identifies as "Approved by the Dain". I'd hate to start completely over though, what a waste. And when you turned in the 2nd 7th shawl to spawn the dain, it will poof since they are LORE and you'll be back to just the 1 shawl (if it matters).

I'd get a shawl for a guildie, but noone else is even close to proficient enough in skills.

Dain was up tonite when I logged in so I got my hopes up

after FIVE HOURS of camping geonids, 6 deaths from training idiots, and TWO MORE TRIVIAL FAILURES....

I finally made my Coldain issue kit at 2am central time.

I run to thurgadin. only to discover that Exegis (Krieger) killed my Dain at 10pm central.

missed it by 4 hours. sigh.

So I have 2 options:
1) camp there and hope for patch day, that I can get him when he respawns in a week, or hope that I can catch him up from someone else doing the quest.

2) Re-do shawls one thru 7 and spawn him myself.

Honestly, now that I have all my skills up, option 2 doenst sound bad except for the silk threads and glowing wurm biles.

I wouldn't worry in your place, I have seen the Dain spawned (and killed) on 3 progressive days on the Karana server.
I would just wait till someone else spawns him in your place.

I honestly think you will get it done faster by checking for him several times a day. Camp your character there (or even an alt) and see if he is up. Do it 1st thing in the morning, again that evening, and again before you go to bed. You're bound to catch him soon enough.

What server are you on? Based upon your name it appears you might be on my server. I'll be spawning the Dain on Tunare in the next couple of days, if you happen to be on my server send me a tell and you can use the Dain I spawn before my guild kills him. I'll probably do it Friday or Saturday.

Aye.. I bound myself there in thurgadin so I can check, and am gonna create an alt that I can park in the dain throneroom.
My worry about checking at odd times is that typically people bring their raid teams along so they can spawn him and immediately kill him, so I"m afraid "random checks" wont cut it.... we'll see.

I normally am online every weeknight between 8pm and 1am central US time. I may not be on at all this saturday due to RL commitments, but if you can give me a time, I"ll MAKE time to meet you.

I would think that most servers (if not all) have a messageboard. I frequently run across messages from shawlers saying they will spawn Dain at xxxx time. Or, put your own message asking for people to let you know. It is only a turn-in. You can do that turn-in when the person who spawned Dain races to the basement and back.

I would never ever do that shawl again. Why not wait for the Dain to spawn? Park a mule next to him and just check from time to time if he is up.
